31 July 2008

I kept doubting July had 31 days....don't know why. :) Yes, there are generally lists at the school or on the school website that list the AR books that school has tests for. I think it's mostly an elementary school thing. Don't really know, though. Alas!

OK - You're going to be part of something really fun today. I'm trying out some Iron-On's. I tried getting the Avery sticker tags and only found the iron -ons but still....I'm going to take pics and show you the progess, blow by blow.....Here we go!

Most important part of this: remember to flip your image so it's backwards. Otherwise it will be backwards after you iron!

Also - have to mention. I saw iron-ons that can be stretched. Yes! At Wal-Mart. In this day and age of not so great clothes for the kids, I think I'll be finding some shirts that I'm OK with and doing Iron Ons.

Image backwards - printed on the Iron On paper.

Trimmed and read to iron.

Ironed on - heat and pressure :)

Post- Ironing. It's in the wash now....and looking good!

The other shirts I did - for our outing next week. Me and the gals that is. So pleased with how the look!

Anyhoo - Hope your day is great. I have one more lesson to do - some pictures to scan, etc. Then I'll be ready to crash tomorrow! More later!

30 July 2008

End of the month! I spent much of the day at the school library. Made it through all the new books they got from another school. Generated 14 pages of AR book labels! I'm going back in a couple of weeks to get all those books labeled and on the shelves. Feels so good to get things done. Getting geared up for next week's vacation. Not sure if I'll be able to blog or not - I'll do my best.

DJ's off at some training for his calling tonight. I'm going to get the rest of the histories printed out and put in the book. I'm so glad my printer hasn't died in the middle of all of this! Sorry - A :)
Her printer just died.

I'm making some really cute iron-on's for shirts for the MIL, GIL, SIL, AIL, and me Opera getaway next week. Such fun! DJ's family is big into event shirts - and I thought this would be fun. My first try at iron-ons (that I remember ;).

Well, I'm getting tired. I guess I better head to bed. Maybe I'll get to sleep before midnight! That would be fabulous!

Take it easy - but have fun!

29 July 2008b

I have neglected to pay tribute to the real heroes in helping these stories reach the light of day - those brave hands that typed them originally on old typewriters. I have seen many of the stories - and must say that although there were errors, there were remarkably few for how much typing there was. All I can say for myself is - THANK GOODNESS FOR SPELL CHECK!

Anyhoo - we're heading to the temple tonight. :) Have a great evening!

29 Juy 2008

Good Morning! I worked hard yesterday and am just finishing the histories today. I have 4 left. One I have to type in because it is so faint :( Alas! My hands hurt from yesterday - but only if I let them be still. So I'll get going!

I still have a few histories to finish after this - but this finishes the material I have. I have some interviews to do - some histories coming later. The majority is done, though! Hooray!

I just love the feeling of making progress in a project! Can you believe it, I'm out of page protectors, AGAIN! I've been making a tally on these last few people to see how many more I'll need to get.

Anyway - better get it done. Have a great day!

28 July 2008

Hello, Monday! I'm working in the S's. Slow and steady. Sort of....I'll probably stay up late working tonight. So much to do - so little time! I did take some time and cleaned up a bit around here. Plus, I know what we're having for dinner and my eye is on the clock - so hopefully I won't forget. Really, I'm feeling a bit bogged down by the stories at present. Soon enough I'll get a great break, though! So I better just get on with it.

For those that might recognize a name dropped here or there - I'll drop the one I'm scanning right now. Orson John Spencer. Yep! Getting there...

I've lost count on how many are left - I just want to get through them. Really there aren't that many more that have stories written on them. I don't know whether that's good or not. I enjoy the stories but the short ones are quicker to get through. Alas!

Well, I have it all scanned in now - on to editing!

25 July 2008

:) Today I've been crashing. I read the book I was working on - same type as before. Too gory and descriptive for my tastes. Alas...there are 2 more books in the series and they aren't on the same topic - maybe a good thing?

We're heading to the drive in later - should be fun. The girls are really excited. I'm just tired. I haven't worked on the histories at all today - but yesterday I began the S's! I've done 4 s's - so that leaves 30? I think anyway. It's getting there. I have read so much that everything jumbles in my mind and doesn't make much sense.

My secret for getting so much done - do what you really want to do and forget everything else. Effective but not good. My poor children - thank goodness they can fend for themselves somewhat! And the state of the house.....We'll just say I'm not taking pictures.

Anyway - we do what we can. Have a great evening!

24 July 2008

PIONEER DAY! Not a state holiday here - but still a special day. The ward is having a potluck at the park - dress up optional.

Thanks for the well-wishes on McKay. She's hanging in there - watching lots of TV. It works.....

I'm heading into the P's today. Starting out I have 5 histories on one person (from the DUP) that I will glance through to see which is the most complete/readable. Then I make sure that the one I end up with has all pertinent stories included. Lots of fun!

To answer Becky's question - we're going back 6 generations from DJ and I (we actually have stories going that far back). Direct line only - that's more than enough probably! Although, I have read some great stories that aren't direct line. There are some individuals that we don't have lines going back that far - so it isn't the maximum number of people it could be (2+4+8+16+32+64+188) Right now I can't give you an exact count - I did count once but didn't write it down.

I've been using Ancestry.com as a research tool and it has been wonderful! I might have to continue a subscription....still thinking about it.

I had a piano lesson this morning and another coming in an hour....so not much time to work on histories - but I have to do something today! There is always more than enough to do. I did get my desk cleaned up a bit yesterday - felt good about that!

So sorry to hear about Kari's encounter with a wasp - I had a similar encounter where I stepped on one (bare feet) a couple of years ago. That was really yucky!

Glad to hear of Ola's preparations. Very exciting stuff!

Still need to catch up on Sarah's blog - I don't think to check it often enough. You're such a great blogger - there's always something new :)

Have a great day all! OH - before I forget....I came across an interesting fact. So many ancestors died of Cholera - I had to find out more about it. I will spare you the details save telling you that basically you shrivel (dehydration). What is interesting, though, is that people with O blood type are more suseptible (sp?) to the virus that causes cholera than the other blood types with A being the least suseptible. Interesting - eh?

23 July 2008

For a brief instant, I got really excited looking at my blog today - I thought - 8 comments! My next thought was - what did I say? Then I realized it was a zero. Alas! I have more fun putting thoughts down than anything else - although I do enjoy reading comments.

Had a nice surprise with a call from Sharon this morning. Such a nice talk....and just after I said we are all doing well and hung up - I was informed that McKay is not well. Took her temp - 101.7, took a look at her throat and into the doctor we went. STREP! So - she's taking the pink stuff. Except it's not pink. Maybe they forgot the flavoring? Anyway - she's taking it. So far the rest of us are good.

Well - I'm making some more progress on my book - Talked to GG, Bruno and Aaron last night. Such good visits all around. Reminds me I'm much too much of a hermit at times.

I'm almost done with the M's! At least I think I am. I could be wrong. About time to go get more page protectors :) Can one ever have enough?

Have a great day all!

22 July 2008

I have to hurry - I see that there is a scheduled outage of the blog in ten minutes! I've had another lazy day - I really planned on doing more but since I skipped my power breakfasts for the last four days, my energy is very low. I have been reading and enjoying that. Carole Nelson Douglas books - about Irene Adler. I can recommend the first four, not number 5 as it was very graphic about the Jack the Ripper stories, and am currently just starting number 6. I have yet to see if the further books are better than number 5 ;)

So - I'm still in the M's - got about 9 done yesterday (minus the printing because my black ink cartridge is dry). DJ is picking me up another cartridge today. Keep the ink flowing, I say!

Anyway, Tomorrow probably won't be very productive as the stories go as I'm heading to the library then on to Kimball's piano lesson and activity days in the evening. Wednesdays are like that. Thursday I have to teach a couple piano lessons - then I have the afternoon to work. I really need to make some progress! It would be nice to do some other little projects too. There is only so much time.

Well - I'll end there so this will save. Have a great day!

21 July 2008

Back from the break. Spent yesterday in bed, recovering. Probably could do the same today - but a sense of guilt from laziness compels me to get up. OK so I'm still in my jammies - but I really think I'll get dressed today.

Great question, GG - What would you do without me? Probably take it a lot easier - feel less harried, etc. But I'm here so we'll work with it.

I so enjoyed reading all 58 blog posts I had to catch up on - I read lots of blogs ;) I've enjoyed noting memories of two of my regular bloggers. I don't want to know about any memories anyone has of me - I'm too mired in memoires of others - and as I've said before - I've taken medication to forget (jokingly). Seriously though, my memory is not what I would wish of it. I figure I'll get the good memories back (and hopefully not the bad) in the next life :)

So today I begin the M's - all 19 of them. I'm tired already just thinking about it. But after the M's - I have 3 N's, no o's, 8 p's, no q's, 1 r, 34 S's,3 t's, no u's, 2 v's, 28 w's and 1y. That's what's left (99 total). It gives you an idea of the ebb and flow of my days. I would really like to finish this part (or mostly finish - minus the ones that I'm waiting for from Bruno, GG, and other sages). That would be great! Then I'll get to work on the pictures. So excited about that part! I do drive myself a bit hard - the housework has definately suffered. Alas! I figure the quicker I get done - the sooner I can get back to what I'm not doing. Some strange sense of logic.....

Anyway - I'm excited for you, Lori to get to H town! What a great feeling. You're probably already there! Ola- your upcoming trip sounds great. It's a good thing you've been going to the gym - you're really just conditioning yourself for the adventure of taking Ollie with you! :)

Well, I do need to shower today and dress - just so my children will come near me :) I get way too focused on a task at hand as DJ can tell you :) He had a great time on the hike - and we were all glad to get back together. I had a great family history story - just remembered I haven't shared. In one of my stories, I found someone else's story. Their family was unaware of the story. Through much searching (about an hour) I located a couple of descendants on Ancestry and emailed them asking if they wanted a copy of the story. One has responded and I sent the story off. So excited to be able to share such a neat story with his family. Such stories should not be forgotten - it involved a baby being brought back to life. That baby went on and had many descendants and my family lost touch of him. This is in the 1860's :) Anyway - who knows what good that story may do now. One of those things I'd love to know "the rest of the story" on.

OK, OK - I'm off. Have a great day all!

17 July 2008

Good Morning. I'm getting ready to run to the store for last minute things for camping. Yes - we are heading out to meet up with DJ. It's going to be an adventure. I'm taking along my girls, my SIL Tina, and her two kids - one age 2 1/2 and the other just a couple of months. Should be an adventure!

So - I won't be posting for a couple of days. I finished the L's last night - the M's are waiting (and there are a ton of them!) Hope everything is going well. Have a great couple of days!

Just saw the funniest Ad....Blank background with these words:
MORMON TEMPLE

LDS Singles --Join free now

I wonder who clicks on that? It turns out it's a dating site - but I wouldn't have guessed it from the first glance. Maybe I'm just not in the market?

16 July 2008

I was on a lot yesterday but didn't post! I am in the J's! Very exciting to see the progress. I did have a few H's that I skipped - waiting for stories from Aaron. All in all, though, going really well. The stories are really incredible! ALthough, I am starting to want to work on the picture pages. I am keeping strong in my resolve to do the stories first. I'm longing for some pretty pages, though.....

Went to dinner with A and S last night. The last supper....as S is moving to MOBILE, ALABAMA!
Very mixed feelings. Trying to be excited for her, but definately going to miss her. She has talked about starting a blog - so that would really help. We've been friends just a little less than DJ and I have been married. Close friends for the last 6 1/2 years. Alas....I don't have many close friends - so it's a loss. So glad we live in this day and age of computers, email, cell phones, etc.

Well, Mary Jackson (the next name on the list) is waiting to have her story told - so I better get on with it. Have a great day!

14 July 2008b

It's almost the 15th....but I'm sure to be back here tomorrow with more to say. So glad I could entertain you with my dreams. I am blessed with memorable dreams every night - it's the rare night I don't remember them. Doesn't mean that they are meaningful.

So - I've gotten almost done with my first volume. That sounds really crazy. Well - I guess it is. I have a relative on my mom's side to call tomorrow to try to squeeze some stories out of - and I'm waiting on the CGB side stories....Don't worry - I left space :) But other than that - the book is full of stories. Pictures to come later. That will be the fun part!

So tomorrow I continue in the H's in Volume 2. There are only 2 Volumes. Managable....I hope. So enjoyed seeing pics and reading what you have been up to. Sounds like quite the system at your home, Becky! And Reg - I enjoyed hearing that my little one isn't the only independant kid out there. Everything she insists on doing herself and not holding hands. Until I make her hold hands. I try to trick her into thinking it's her idea (or I need help). I do need help :) But that's another topic.

Anyway - now you see why I rarely post this late. I better take my pills and get to bed. Morning will be here before I know it. Have a good night!

14 July 2008

So I've been crazily working on the book. I took Sunday off - visiting teaching and all. I'm in the G's today. Volume one goes through Healey. It would be really great to get that far - I have so many other things going - so probably not today. :( Tomorrow is a new day, though. ANd - since DJ is off hiking I can stay up as late as I wish working on this!

I took a picture of my cluttered work area - but as I can't find the camera (did DJ take it?) you'll have to wait to see the pics.

That's really all I'm up to. Oh - I did have a dream last night about living in a different house. It was really a great house. I decided I needed to count how many bathrooms it had - and I found it had nine! And no - I didn't need to get up and use the facilities in the night ;) It was a fun house.

A few weeks ago I had a dream about Becky's house. I guess you would probably call it a conference center or a compound. It was really big - hotelesque and had large meeting rooms for all the family (extended). I think it probably was big enough for about 200 people! Had to share....

My dreams are really entertaining. No wonder I enjoy sleeping so much! Have a great day everyone!

11 July 2008

Thanks for saying I look good, Reg. I've been thinking about that as I have my 15 year HS reunion next month. And yes - I'm going. So - it's nice to hear that I look good. I always have some doubt in my mind.

I'm glad I could share those music links with you, Becky. Don't you love living in this day and age of things available from the comfort of your home? We enjoy it! I'm old enough to remember the days of going to the library and looking through the card catalog - and the periodical index. Crazy! Love technology!

So I've had a very productive day. I had planned to crash - but there will be time for that later - so I worked all afternoon on the histories - and I'm almost done with E!!!

I can't tell you how good it feels to be coming along so well. I know that there could be updates and additions - but getting this far is wonderful! I'll have to go pick up some more page protectors - but the stories are going really well. I had to split my "master" book into 2 parts because it was just too big.

We have Jared & Cory's kids for a bit tonight and are really enjoying them. We even got Shilo!

Hope you have a great weekend!

10 July 2008

Wonderful Grandma! So glad that you can help! Today I summarized CD's personal history. I think it turned out well. I'm just starting on CG's In it I found that he liked the song Whispereing hope. I found a link to the sheet music (free!) http://library.timelesstruths.org/music/Whispering_Hope/score/

Hope you can enjoy it where you're at! Maybe Becky or Traci can play it for you? Silly me - I just checked the link and if you click on the arrow (facing right) it will play it for you!

Here's Star of the East. You can listen for free to the page it shows: http://www.musicnotes.com/sheetmusic/mtd.asp?ppn=MN0060978

Anyway - Having a great time. So - for the record I have everyone up to CG done. Stories that is - not all the pics. WOrking on the stories mainly now. Very fun stuff.

Yes - Sharon I crashed the scooter. And since you ask - here's a pic:

You can see the side headlight by my hand that the cover is busted off. You can faintly see the scratches on the front just above the headlight on the right. Alas!
So what do you do when you fall off something? Get back on. OK - I didn't fall off - but Dad wanted to be sure I wasn't letting it get the better of me.

So you can see - DJ ran a 5K in Rexburg - and enjoyed himself thoroughly. I think it's a great distance. I didn't have to sit and wait too long! The last is a picture of me holding one of S's twins at the slip and slide. What fun!

Well, Back to work. Have a great day!

9 July 2008

Had a wonderful surprise today - found the missing retainer of Kimball's! It's been gone for almost 2 weeks - we were informed of it's absence last Wednesday night. I was sitting at my computer today - and turned to talk to the girls and spied it - underneath the bench in front of their computer on the floor! Good thing we hadn't got a new one! The orthodontist said that there was no need to get another one (we took her in yesterday) because she would be in braces too soon (at least 6 months from now). It was something nice.

I continued helping at the school with printing AR labels for the books that they recieved from another school that's closing. Next week I'll probably spend most of Wednesday there - helping to label the books and get them closer to the shelves. I'm just so glad that I can be helpful! I think it's the projects I enjoy the most - the process rather than the completion!

I did just a bit on the histories today. I'll dig in deep tomorrow. They really won't ever be done, really - as there will always be more stories to find, more details to enter, etc. I'm not numbering the pages.....because of that. Well, I'm tired and need to sleep. Have a great evening!

8 July 2008

The biggest break in a long while. I'm still battling allergies - living on tylenol and benadryl. ;) I have made some great progress in my book....Although I might have to split it into 2 books...We'll see. I got a bunch of page protectors and if I only do one page per person from here out - I'll have enough. Yeah - like that's going to happen!

We had a wonderful fourth of July weekend. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Still recovering....:) I'll put pictures on later. Enjoyed the trip to Rexburg and back. Started the weekend with a bang by crashing Chuck's scooter :) into a barbed-wire fence. Thinking back - it's really a miracle I wasn't hurt worse. Just a bruise....The scooter took the brunt of the crash.

Well - that's about all I can manage for now. I'm not even up to reading the blogs. Maybe later...

Love to all!

2 July 2008

A busy morning - off to the dentist, then to get a haircut, then shopping, then the school library and lunch. Finally HOME! I'm planning to rest and take it easy most of the rest of the day. A couple of things yet to do - but first a nap!

Couldn't get in with my doctor - so I'm telling myself it's just more fibro fun. I think I'm even believing myself :)

Anyway- have a great day!

1 July 2008

I so agree with you, Sarah. Not sure I want to spend the time to catch up either. I have had lots of spare time yesterday and today. I felt OK yesterday morning (other than allergys) but a friend brought over some donuts and I ate one and I've felt sick the rest of the day. Still waiting to hear from DJ whether or not I'll get in to the doctor. Not sure that it will help much anyway. Still in my jammies today....but I'm getting some tidying done anyway. I alternate between Hot and Cold. I had a low-grade fever last night....maybe I really do have something going?

I feel so bad for you, Traci - with the sunburn. You can't do that!!! It really is miserable! Enjoyed the pictures on Kari's blog - so fun to see the kids in the backyard. It looks like the pool is just the right distance from the concrete - so KC doesn't get his feet in the wood. :) Enjoyed reading about Ola's life. It left me wondering though - did you mean that you have that many dentist visits coming up? Yikes! I'm going for a cleaning tomorrow....but have been blessed with Bruno's great teeth. No cavities since I left home. Now watch - just because I said that I'll probably have a cavity tomorrow ;)

Well - I better keep going on the house. I always like to come home from vacation to a clean house - so that means I have to clean before we go. We're heading to see Isaac and Sheila (and kids) before they head out to parts unknown by me. I do know the name of the place - just not much more. It will be a great adventure...but since it will probably be a while before we see them again - we're going to visit.

Well - I wish I could put the rest of my day off....but I'll take it as easy as possible. Have a great day!
