Sorry about yesterday. I was on my computer all day -but still didn't blog. And I forgot my camera so no pix from caroling! We did have a wonderful time, though. I went to bed early last night - it was so nice to get so much rest. DJ and the girls went out for a few hours and I heard them come in. I thought it was morning and time to get up - the sleep had been so nice! And I still had the whole night ahead.

So today I'm just going to enjoy being home - maybe run a few errands....we'll see.

Thought for today: Joel 2:13 - Turn unto the Lord your God; for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness.

Thanks for the reminder, Becky! If I don't post every day - or even for a few days in a row, forgive me. I really need to recharge a bit. I have friends coming over every day this week for help in finishing their holiday projects. It will be really nice to be able to visit. Just doesn't seem like there's enough time most days.

We've had an interesting moment. Most know that we canceled trips and have been working hard to be more financially responsible. It's been a bit rough this year. Things are looking up - but the best news is that we've done really well. We've made some significant progress even as the income was about 28% less than last year!! I didn't realize that until today. The Lord just keeps blessing us. I have to add that while we could have had our usual store-bought Christmas, I have enjoyed the preparations this year more than any year previous!

I've got a couple more things to finish before heading to my in-laws for FHE tonight. It's the yearly caroling activity with the gift exhange. The crazy part of me thinks I ought to learn a couple of guitar cords to be able to accompany our singing. I at least recognize that it's the crazy part :) I'll post some pics tomorrow.

OK - I'm just about ready to be committed to the psych ward!!! Kimball has 2 friends over today making homade gifts for their families - which sounds easy enough but surprisingly has involved me to a huge extent! Well, I know they've had fun. They'll be going home soon.....I'm just feeling so worn out! Still have a hockey game to go to tonight - and a missionary sacrament meeting tomorrow - with a 2 hour drive each way :) lots of fun....

I think the tough part of the Christmas season is getting to busy doing good things. At least for me it is. So many opp0rtunities - I hate to pass any up. Alas.....

Maybe I just need to ask for a week in bed for Christmas!@ Mommy doesn't get time off, though.

Chuckle - thought of the day truly is for me: Psalm 100:2,4 Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing....Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankfuol unto him, and bless his name.

Have to tell you - that picture was taken just after we got engaged - 12 1/2 years ago!!!! But it hasn't been retouched or altered at all - DJ took it and was so pleased with it. It has always been a favorite. Thanks for the compliment on the layout!~ and Reg - I'm always stocking up for future events on kits I come across. I liked what Becky said when we were last together - "I'm a collector" - that really fits me too. So enjoyed reading your thoughts too, Julie. I got a chance to visit (and bring to my house) a gal that we visit teach. She has known me for years - but not too well if you know what I mean. Anyway -she had no idea that I was into so many things and had so many hobbies. She's comming over next Wednesday to do some blocks :) - I guess it makes me think that we all have something to share with others - given the opportunity. My house was rather messy - but that's the real part ;)

Where did the last 2 days go? I have been so busy I haven't had time to blog - I'm even racing to blog today. I have mini-loaves in the oven (to go to DJ's work party tonight) - and I have to post today. I've been busy making more stuff - take a look:

Chore blocks - for when you need to do everything - this way you can decide what to do first. One is mine - another is a friends. Same colors on both blocks.


Taking turns blocks. My children are color coded - Dj and I to a lesser extent. I did blocks with our colors and numbers - like position in family. This way we can roll the die to see who says the prayer - or we can use this in our games that we need a die for. One is mine - another is a friends (with 3 children so she has a wild spot on her die).

These are taking it easy blocks - one for me another for a friend. When I need to take it easy but can't think what to do - I just roll!

This is another recipe card holder - supposed to be my white elephant for RS - but I ran out of time - so it will be a house-warming gift. Turned out so cute!

Well that's about it. Just more of the same....THought for today: 3 Nephi 24:10 - Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in my house; and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of Hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

I truly have experienced this - the Lord has greatly blessed us as we have paid our tithes. What a blessing it is to be raised with paying tithing. It makes it easy!

It's really been a day. I just need a day to rest and relax and it's not in the forcast until Friday (and maybe not even then!). We're surviving the wonders that two/three year olds can create in the form of chaos. And how quickly! Thanks again everyone for the positive notes on my hair. It really makes a difference if you feel good about how you look.

So I've spent a little too long on the computer today. Maybe that's why my little ones are making such messes - it's a call for attention! Just have to share some links. Especially like ScrapProfessor. And there are a few freebies you can get from her site - plus a few more for registering in the forums. Very nice stuff. I really need to thin my kits - one of these days. There are lots that I downloaded early on and probably won't ever use. I haven't got to work on my decopage today - I'm waiting for DJ to cut me some wood blocks - but I'll have to do something tomorrow.

So I need to get some more pictures posted - and update my photo on here....I'll get to it soon - in the meantime - I'll post a picture on of a mini page I did recently. I think it's DJ's favorite picture of us:

So that's where we got that article of faith! I didn't know that. I make a concious effort to make sure that my friends and family know I'm flawed. It doesn't do me or them any good to look perfect. We have to do our best - and should focus on the positive, but if we're not real, honest people - most will have a hard time relating to us. That's my take on it.

Thanks for the postive feedback, everyone! I do like it too! I'm already used to it - so when everyone commented at church - it took me a minute to remember that I had got it cut. Silly me.

So this year for our VT and HT visits - we took homeade DVD's of some fun shows for our families. No one we visit gets these shows - so we thought they'd really enjoy them. I'm debating what to take for our RS progressive dinner on Tuesday - gift wise. Just a little something - but I want it to be cute too. I'm torn between a stationary set (homemade) or a recipe card holder (different colors than the previous one). Maybe I'll make both and take two gifts. It never hurts to have an extra gift in case someone forgets to bring one.

Today was nice at church. We were all there - no one home sick :) Yeah!

Well - my mind is falling asleep - so that will have to do until tomorrow. Have a good evening.

I got it cut last night. I didn't go as short as I was thinking about - but I do like how it looks. There's always next time for shorter....with this being the cold season - I didn't want to freeze! Anyway, we're off on adventure today. DJ has some work in outlying areas so I asked if we could tag along. McKay is already complaining that she gets carsick and cold on trips. :) Crazy girl!

I'm hoping to get some cards done this morning - so it's a short post. Thought: 2 Nephi 4:15 - My soul delighteth in the scriptures and my heart pondereth them.

Kari - I think I just have a touch of OCD. At any rate - it gets out of hand sometimes. And I can't imagine spending the time you spend doing cakes! They are beautiful but I know my limits. I ended up with 28 quarts of beans and got to bed about 11 pm - a little later than I like. I was feeling it this morning. I just finished baking cookies (garbanzo bean cookies (aka chickpeas)) - and the girls gobbled them up! I'm feeling so healthy! We've also started setting out veggies for munching on while we're getting dinner finished up. They are eating more veggies (and I make the sneaky veggie dip - yesterday it was avacado). Everyone seems to be enjoying this new way of life.

Thanks Grandma for calling! - You got me motivated to post today. I'm really working like crazy - but need to take some time and post.

Yesterday Kimball had an appointment with the orthodontist. They're talking about Phase 2 soon - next year something I think. I asked for an estimate so we could begin to save. I knew it would be spendy - and it's good to know in advance - but it's put a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach. I hope that will go away soon - just have to be really focused financially! It's frustrating feeling like there isn't anything I can really do to contribute.

Today I have just a little respite - the girls are at a friend's house. So am I resting like I should be? - NO - I'm running like crazy trying to get things done. Here's a quick glimpse:

So - I'm canning beans - or I will be when the timer goes off on them soaking! Navy beans and Garbanzo beans aka - I can't remember what else Garbanzo beans are called. Double points if you know which bean is in which picture.... I need them canned for my sneaky recipes. I'm also burning copies of my favorite shows for gifts for my friends who aren't able to watch them. Last - don't tell the girls but I got the snugglies done. Aren't they cute! They smell so wonderful - Peppermint and Burgamot with a bit of chamomile tea to boot. And rice - in case I didn't mention that.

Thought: Doctrine and Covenants 19:23 - Learn of me, and listen to my words; walk in the meekness of my Spirit, and you shall have peace in me.

I think the thought is for me - I'm feeling a lack of peace. Anyway - better get onto my next project. Until tomorrow!

Quickie post - I've got to go VTing tonight then onto Tithing Settlement! I've spent all day working on a layout - Want to see? Here it is:

I know it probably doesn't look like much - but I had to clean the girls room - put away laundry and go through their clothes and toys to have the drop off to take to the DI. Anyway- the gals at digichick are having a challenge (I think that's what it is) - where you post a layout about giving back and you get a freebie in return. Looked really cute - and it's probably the most effort I've ever put in to get a freebie. At any rate - I ended up with and OK layout - my picture isn't that great - but I don't think we're ever pleased with how we look.

Speaking of that - I'm thinking of getting a haircut. I'm really waffly on what to do with my hair - hence the growth from indecision. Also - it's been tough to find a time to go and get a cut with DJ having to babysit. So now that Kimball can sit a bit - I'm freed to go and do what I want with it. I just don't know what I want. Any suggestions? Is there a particular hairstyle that you loved on me - or would like to see me in? I can put on some old pics if you really want to remember......:)

Seriously - I need some advice.

We had a good weekend - minus Taylor getting sick in the night last night. Poor pukie girl! I got the Christmas Cards done so now I just need to get them in the mail. I'm so pleased with how cute they are! Have to show pictures of some other fun things (you'll have to wait for the Christmas card :) -

This is our bug soap - plastic ant in glycerin melt and pour soap - so easy!!! Thought the boy cousins might like it.

Here's a little peek at my chemistry lab. We have the dragon breath spray - just need to add the labels. Also the rice and herb blend for the cool/heat pads for the girls. It smells so good! - Peppermint and Bergamot.

I found this little gem at the Deseret Industries: I'm planning on decopaging it - it's a huge double clipboard with a handle on the side. Fun fun! And a deal at $3.00!

Onto the thought for today: Micah 6:8 He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?

Pretty basic when it comes down to it....but it encompasses so much more! Have a wonderful December day!

Just checking in - still running low. Hormone Headache week too.....But all in all - I'm getting stuff done. The Lord blesses me with strength and energy when I ask. Truly a blessing!

I've got many sites to check out today - I've been making a list in my planner so when I had time I could just sit down and check them. Today's the day! I'll put a picture on to show you what DJ did for me this week (in addition to other things too!)

These are the girls little cubbies - big enough for a brush, comb, toothbrush, and anything else they might want. The extra cubbie is for pretties. I put their color tags on so they know which cubbie is theirs. This is a work in progress - eventually it will be higher on the wall - but we really needed it for now - in a lower location. I hope to add a couple of additional cubbies on later too - we'll see. I'm just so glad to have it up and usable now.

Here's what I've been busy doing. My girls helped out a ton with the tree - and I got the rest of the stuff up. It's really getting us in the Christmas spirit! Don't tell my girls - but the presents are hidden in bins under the stairs! The ones the ornaments came out of :) So sneaky!

Speaking of presents - I have a few more to wrap up - but I'll be done with them soon - maybe even this weekend! I'm most excited about doing bug soap for the boy cousins. We're using gycerin melt and pour soap - and putting plastic bugs in it. Should be fun! I've got to get my shopping list done for date night tonight!

Well - that's about all for today: 2 Nephi 25:26 - We talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ....that our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins.

We start our Christmas stories tomorrow night. I'm really excited about this and optimistic that the girls will listen this year. We have a binder that we start reading from on Dec 1 - with stories for every night that leads us up to Christmas. It was a great gift from a good friend one year!

I'm mid crash I think. Had too much fun over the last several days and it's caught up with me. I got up - but had to go back to bed and slept for almost 3 hours this morning. It's been awhile since I had to do that. Thankfully my girls have enough to keep them busy during these times.

We had so much fun at the concert! I was surprised at how old Billy Joel looked - he reminded me of Celine Dion's husband (grey/white hair and all). But it was still a fun concert - especially that DJ went with me. I can't image another concert on a Monday night that we'll be missing FHE for - and that's a good thing. I kept thinking about my girls - so it was a good opportunity to think of what's really important.

Thought for today: Matthew 27:46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

Pres. Hinckley uses this scripture to talk about the loneliness of leadership. Sometimes in doing what we know is right we can feel lonely too. What a blessing it is to have family and wards to surround us with those who believe as we do.

Monday! DJ is hard at work pruning the roses and cleaning up the yard. I've been rearranging some things. So - life is somewhat back to normal.....with the concert tonight!

We had such a great weekend! So enjoyed seeing everyone - just wish that we had more time to visit. Life gets going so fast that you can't get everything in! We have some things planned for our next visit (or two) already!

So I missed yesterday....It was a busy day here. We did our duet in Sacrament Meeting, then went to pick up P (that gal I mentioned) and when we got there - she and 2 of her children were waiting in the car for us!!!!! She saw us pull up and hurried in to get her husband and other son. They all came to church. Dad and one of the boys only lasted a few minutes - that kid has energy! Mom, daughter and the other son stayed thru Sunday School. Then that son checked out the primary class - found that he was in the same school class as one of the girls, and left to go out to the car. P and her little girl went to RS with me. I know she was interested because she was really paying attention - looking around people to see who was speaking, etc. She even cried a couple of times! I know the lesson was on Revelation (#22 in the manual) but don't know much beyond that - it being in Spanish. After RS - Spanish Branch has Sacrament. They were too tired to go on - but I was really impressed that they made it through that much! H (Dad) was really nice to us and we exchanged phone numbers with the plan of having dinner at each other's house after the holidays. H even inquired into our plans for this week :) After church I went visiting teaching - getting home about 5:00. We started out about 2:30 and did 2 visits.

Anyway - it was good. I've got a picture to share today:

This is the recipe Card holder I got done. Don't worry A, I'm doing another one - so we'll still get together for that :) - I just think it turned out so cute! I used the Shabby Princess Urban Kiwi Kit - and the font was fontdinerdotcom Loungy. I even put a pattened paper on the bottom :) Anyway I'm feeling so crafty!

We tried the paper bracelets and they would probably work for the really determined/dextrous cousins. Might need some adult help too, though. But so much fun! My nephew T really had a great time making a black one. It held his attention amazingly well! He's 11.....We would also need a paper cutter to get the papers the right size - but all in all - it's not too crazy! I'm excited to see your papers, Sharon!

So today - I'm doing a couple of recipe cards, baking some pumpkin bread, doing laundry, and general cleaning. Should be a great day! Tomorrow I'm really taking it easy so I'm all set for our trip!

After doing my grateful page - I was a bit dismayed at how short it was - I guess I pictured something single spaced, small type, filling an entire page. Alas....But some of my items were rather general - like metal, and wood, etc. I don't know if it helps. It was good to just sit and think of what I"m grateful for! I should do that more often.

Ties into an interesting experience yesterday. I'll give you the short version. A lady I met at the park came over to my house and I ended up giving her a Book of Mormon and saying a kneeling prayer for her. She said she'd read the book and was crying and gave me a big hug after the prayer. All I can say is - The Lord can make any of us missionaries if we are open to it. She speaks Spanish (and enough English to understand me - I think). I'm going by her house tomorrow to bring her to church if she's able to go. I still don't know it all happened - I am home most of the time - but still the Lord gave me the chance to share the gospel!

So I bruised the palm of my left hand a couple of days ago - I'm really feeling it! Last night we took the activity days girls to the temple - cold but nice! This morning I was up at 3:55 with DJ to get ready and go to the 5 am session at the temple. He's spending the whole day there as our ward has an assignment. One session was all I could manage (and barely at that!). I'm really hoping for a nap today.

After watching mega disasters this week - I'm grateful for oil (gasoline) and hope when it runs out we have something else in place to sustain our lifestyle. Yikes! That show really makes me look at things differently! I'm so enjoying my candle warmer - I have a sage and cinnamon candle warming now - it smells so good. This time of year I alternate that scent with blackberry. Truly delightful! I'm thinking of doing at least one page with a big old list of what I'm grateful for all over it! I'll have to post it when I get it done.

I am on the last crochet washcloth for my girls (color coded of course!) - It's Kimball's blue one :) The girls are so helpful when they have their color cloth to clean with! My hands will recover ;) I figure as long as I hurt - I know I'm still alive.....

I've actually got several books to check out that are about Fibromyalgia. Haven't lost hope yet.....

So the thought for today: (At first glance I thought the heading said 'Gender: An insidious trap" - the word was actually greed :) - Luke 12:15 And he said unto them, take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.

So - how much is enough? The past two weeks we've been paring down our wants - and you know, I haven't missed the things I could have bought! I'm finding that contentment is found in gratitude for what you have. What a blessing the peace the spirit bring is! Have a bounteous day!

Such a nice long weekend! Sorry I haven't been on to write - but I've thoroughly enjoyed my time. Don't have much to say today - I'm busy cleaning and getting organized. It's all good.

So I got around to looking at the DUP website - and unfortunately they will be closed while we're visiting. So - my family history project will have to wait!

Thought for today: 2 Nephi 9:52 - Behold, my beloved brethren, remember the words of your God; pray unto him continually by day, and give thanks unto his holy name by night. Let your hearts rejoice.

I haven't been doing a Thankful list - but I have thought of a couple of things I'm thankful for - Paint! I'm glad my walls can be colorful - instead of just white. Paint is great. I'm also thankful for magnets - makes life fun! I'm thankful for paper - such a useful part of my life! I'm thankful I know how to read - life would be so less rich without that skill!

Well - lots to do. We're reading some nursery rhymes this afteroon!

So many questions/comments! I don't come up with ideas myself - I snitch other's ideas. The blocks are made of wood - I got the basic blocks at a craft store. I'll probably have DJ cut me some for future fun. I measured them - they are about 2 1/2 inches square. Then I made a template in my scrapbook program and selected papers that I liked and numbers to go on too. So All I had to do was print out, cut out squares, glue onto the wood, gently ink the edges, and put a coat of modge podge on top! For the amount of effort - it is really an easy, beautiful craft. Now I've got to get some small rectangles to put the month names on so my calendar blocks will be done! My little girls have had so much fun playing with the blocks - I might have to make some just for them!

My board is upside down in the picture - but it gives you a better idea of how it looks. I also put a picture of the back of it - so you can sort of see how it started out (minus the slot holes for hanging). It has a 3 inch border all the way around (cost me $17.99 at the craft store for metal and wood together). DJ use silicone to glue the metal in place for me. I just printed out some pretty papers (in the girls colors) and trimmed them to the size I needed, glued, then topped with another layer of modge podge (that's also the aforemetioned glue). Now I need the wall finished where I want to hang it. I'm going to put together some sort of chart. Here's my inspiration:

Can't remember where I got this - some scrapbook site....in August. I have a blue one too....:) I want to make something similar - and put it on a sheet of magnet backing. - I'll cut out holes (like a grid) - so that each of the girls can put a flower (or some other item with magent on it) next to each task. Their names will be across the top instead of having the days of the week. Still in the planning stages - but that's what I have in mind. Eventually I'd like to have seasonal magnet pages to use - just to make it fun.

For our Thanksgiving get together - maybe we could do blocks? I'm planning one to help me make decisions - with 5 out of the 6 sides saying variations of No! (I roll it when someone asks me to do something....akin to drawing lots in the scriptures ;) Anyway - it's all making me feel a lot craftier than I should! I have to say, Sharon - that I have thought myself crafti-capped. After this past week, I think anyone could do stuff like this. I've been checking out books on paper crafting and other such things - it does get you thinking!

How much of what we do is limited by our mental mindset? I know running is much in the mind - you can run as far as you think you can. In other words - you can limit yourself by just thinking you're not capable. Our bodies are miraculous. They can do more than we think. We are more than the sum of our parts. Let yourself be made into something you can't currently comprehend! It's all about looking up rather than looking in.

I found the scriptures - after asking the little ones where they were. Taylor's face brightened right up and she showed us just where she had put them - in a little used drawer. Feels good knowing where they are.

So me.....Yesterday I thought I'd be really smart and put all of our Books of Mormon in one container - so we'd be set when it was scripture time. All went well until scripture time and we couldn't find the scriptures. Still don't know where they are...;) Our house really is only so big - It's driving me nuts!!! I'll let you know where they are when I finally find them!

I only did 7 quarts of potatoes yesterday. So the potatoes continue today. It really is one of the easiest things to can - hardly any prep work at all. I know potatoes keep well on their own - but for some reason I really like the bottled little potatoes. And the washing machine.....how else are you going to wash all those little potatoes? It works.

So I have big plans today - finally doing my calendar blocks - decopage. And maybe some other things. Thinking about doing a decorative clothesline. Like Santa's laundry or something.....I'll get some pics. I'm also working on plans for our Homemade Christmas. This year we've decided to go with that theme. It's giving us some focus and we still have time for what we need to do.

Have to mention I get the Digital Scrapbooking Magazine - and I love the online stuff. They send me an email to let me know the magazine is on it's way - and add a link to the online version. If you click on the link and let it open, along the top you will see the option - Archives. Click on that and scroll down - and there are past issues of the magazine, as well as Digital Scrapbooking books (several volumes) - what a great thing! I'm still working my way through all that material!

I have a recipe for you today! From a Scrapbooking Newsletter (somewhere...)

Chocolate Pots de Creme

3/4 c. Milk
1 c. (6 oz pkg) semi-sweet chocolate bits
1 egg
2 Tbsp sugar

Heat milk just to a boiling point. Place all the other ingredients in the blender and add the hot milk. Blend at low speed for 1 minute. Pout into 6 oz. cups and chill for several hours. Fill cups about 1/2 full since the pots de creme is very rich. Serve with ice cream or whipped cream.

When I made this I used carob chips (just to see if I could) and it was so sweet that next time I won't add any sugar. DJ really loved it! Actually all the kids enjoyed it. Just too sweet for me. But very rich and chocolately. So quick and easy - the hard part is waiting several hours for it to chill.

So enjoyed everyone's comments on prayer. I especially like the part about sincerity! I don't think I've ever fallen asleep during my prayers...maybe that season hasn't come for me yet :) Why is it that we are easier on/kinder to others than ourselves? As I pictured Sharon cold in bed saying her prayers - I thought how I would give full credit for that. I wouldn't do the same for myself. Why is that? Maybe we would be a lot happier if we treated ourselves like we treat our friends. Just a thought.....

I have a new favorite movie - The Ultimate Gift. Have you seen it? I'm putting it on my Christmas list because it has such a great message. We saw it at Chuck and Sue's a couple of weeks ago and just loved it! Any other great movies out there?

Today I'm going to can baby potatoes. My little girls will help me sort the bins of tatos and then we'll put the in the washer and away we'll go! I just love the buttery taste that the potatoes have when you open and use them up!

We watched the series You - on a diet, You- the owners manual, and the other You show (don't remember the whole name). It's inspiring us to try and eat a bit better. So I'm going to make some bread....sometime. No defined time for that yet.

I got busy and did some scrapbooking this weekend - not just organizing the many kits I have - but actually creating layouts. I'll post a couple here. I am planning on getting them printed at 4X6 size and putting them in a photo album I have yet to fill. Have to say I was inspired by the Ollie turning 1 card I got! It's in the album :) - so cute! Anway - here's a sample....

I was feeling a bit down the other day - realizing that I wasn't reading regularly to Mckay. She so wants to earn her free pizza coupons....I even wrote a note on the paper we're supposed to send back saying "we'll so better next month" - and then inspiration hit! We read the scriptures! I can count that. So, even though we aren't taking any special time out of the day to sit and read - we're still reading! Have to say I was feeling some joy!

Happy Saturday! DJ just got home from his half-marathon this morning! It took him 2 hrs and 13 minutes. It's nice to see him - even if he has many things to do yet today :) Halloween was so fun for the girls - they are still on a candy high! So nice to hear that everyone had a good Halloween!

My cold is getting much better- my voice is even back in the normal range! Just taking it easy today - like yesterday. I really don't have much to say :)

Is anyone like me in thinking we only get full credit for our prayers if we're on our knees? I'm not taking about spur of the moment, part of your day prayers. I mean the night time ones where you're already laying down and you know you need to get back up to kneel down to pray. Extra credit for kneeling on the floor....

Thanks for the well wishes of health. Last night I didn't feel like watching anything spooky - and I wasn't up to going with the fam to the trunk or treat - so I surfed my channels and found a show on Discovery Health about a girl born without a face! It so touched my heart! Just when you feel like you're riding a bit low - you see something that makes you realize how truly blessed you are. I recorded a bit and showed the girls a clip when they got home - it generated a bit of conversation :) ANyway - I'd recommend seeing it if you get a chance. It really started my November with a grateful feeling.

Have to mention - this Saturday is Digital Scrapbooking Day for those who didn't know - lots of fun stuff and freebies out there. I've got a few sites on my list to visit - Peppermint Creative, DigiChick, Scrapbook-bytes, and KBand friends. Today I'm organizing my freebies again. It's a real visual feast. Just seeing all these beautiful papers makes me feel good.

I really like the new look - thanks for the info Regan! It took much of the day - but it looks so nice! I was secretly worried that when I got on today - it would be back to normal :) Silly Probably! It's fun!

Such a good thought! With so much going on - it's easy to be weary! But it is worth the effort that we can give. Have a great day!

I had so much fun making the cookies - and getting the packages ready. Unfortunately, a trip to the doctor last night convinced me that I'm not up to going to the class today - so I dropped everything off at another mom's house. She's going to do the party for me. We'll see about the trunk or treat tonight.....

Sorry for the break - but I'm back for now. Had a real nice weekend at Rexburg. Wish we had more time to stop and see everyone! Thanks for the comments on the party - I'm hoping it will go well. I have a fun picture to share with you today:

It's the Rexburg Idaho Temple! There was a gorgeous harvest moon out - and we had to take a picture that showed both. I just posted the picture as we took it - no fiddling at all! Also - have to put a pic of the birthday boy:

He had a wonderful birthday. Thanks again mom and dad for making it such a great weekend!

So today I'm working on more file folders - for Mckay's class. I'm colorizing them in PE. It's so much fun - I think I'll print out a copy for us to keep! I'm going to put pictures of those, the bag toppers and Kimball's costume on probably later this week. Have to show all the crazy fun we've been having.

Well, on to the thought: Doctrine and Covenants 93:36 The Glory of God is intelligence, or, in other words, light and truth.

Thanks for the well wishes on the concert! I've heard stories of a legendary performance he did at the Y some many years ago, afterwhich he was asked not to come back. Don't know if it's true or not...But we are pretty excited!
I've been finding ideas for McKay's class Halloween party. The teacher won't be there - she's off to Hawaii. She's not into Halloween and the sub doesn't do Halloween either. I know the kids like Halloween...and I get to be the parent to do the party. Lucky me...
Already I'm feeling some stress about meeting various expectations. I did email my plans to the teacher and she said they sounded fine - just to keep it low key and fun. Right - low key with Kindergarteners! When I've got everything ready then I can forget about it until the day comes. So much to do this week - still need to fix Kimball's Abagail Adams costume. History Halloween for 5th grade and all...

Today I have to focus and get a wedding card made and some other cards of VTing. The month is running out and since my partner prefers Sunday visits - doesn't look like they'll get done. So - I'll run some cards around and feel like I've done something!

We're heading to the temple tonight! I'm relieved that today has finally come. I know it's always a tough day or two before we actually go - attempts to discourage us and all....Anway. I almost made some black bat cookies today - but caught myself in time before my hands were stained black - not a good thing just before attending the temple.

So the day is about over. It's been pretty good - a slow start and then some things that really needed done. I did get some good rest. I think I've been grouchy because I've had sugar. It really seems to affect me - and I convince myself every now and then that it doesn't - then I get grouchy (until I get more).

So the exciting news - DJ got us tickets to the local Billy Joel concert in November! He is a long time favorite (Billy Joel) - and even though he's getting old - I am really excited to have the opportunity to see him. One of those life-long dreams.

Well, here's the thought: John 16:33 In my ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

It's true - we have so much to be grateful for that's it's a bit crazy that we aren't always of good cheer. I think it's mostly a loss of perspective. Glad to have my perspective back today!

Just a really quick note - I'm making tomato preserves today. Had a ton of little green tomatos and since I don't like relish or pickles...It uses tomatoes, sugar, and jello. It smells really good but is tiring me out. I won't be on to write tomorrow - crash day and all. Have a wonderful couple of days!

So I forgot to share some more stuff.....Monday we went on a bike ride for FHE. That is everyone but me and Taylor. We walked together. She said "It's a beautiful day!" about 20 times on our walk from which I inferred that she was really happy. It was a beautiful evening, though! Also on Monday we gave away the last of our diapers - YES it's official - Taylor is POTTY Trained! She is even dry at night. We are so excited about this!!! I remember when Kimball was potty trained - then a couple of years later we had Mckay and I so felt like I was backsliding! Anyway....I'm sure many know how we feel and others can imagine. It's another passage of life.

This morning I'm getting handouts ready for Activity Days this evening. We are doing a talent show with the theme of Matthew 5:16 - Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. I printed the scripture in Spanish and English on paper (sized just right) - then used my tag punch to turn the scripture into tags. I had seen this neat trick - and I got to use it today. You turn your punch upside down so you can see what your punching - center the words and punch! It worked great! I have little battery operated candles for each of the girls and I'll tie the tags on to those.

Kimball is having a fall party on Saturday. We're planning A Series of Unfortunate Events Theme - we'll watch the movie and have related food. She's really excited about it - and as it's from 4 to 8, I think it will be managable. DJ will be here to help, too!

Aaron - I have enjoyed the short stories. It seems like less of a comittment time wise to read. My favorite stories in the book were The Bottle Imp, The Sire de Maletroit's Door, and the Story of the Young Man with the Cream Tarts. I have another Stevenson book to read - don't remember the name right now. I'm currently in The Wandering Prince by Jean Plaidy - about Charles Stuart (exiled following his father's death). Seems like I'm learning a lot about that time in history.

So, since I've already given you a scripture for today, I'll just wish you a happy day!

The week is going well. I have a new plan that I hope works well. Friday will be my new crash day. I will be well rested for a date night that evening. I'll let you know if it works :) I'm taking it easier in general as well. Of course, I still get an idea in mind of something that needs done right now - so I have to hop up and do it. But overall - things are going more slowly.

The sprinker blow-out guy just came. A day early - but got it done. I'm enjoying reading a book of Robert Louis Stevenson's short stories today. I hope to finish it today - got a lot going tomorrow. I'm helping in McKay's class and we have activity days in the evening.

Thought for today: Doctrine and Covenants 130:18 Whatever principle of intelligence we attain unto in this life, it will rise with us in the resurrection.

I'm glad to know that the things I've learned are still in there somewhere - that I'll remember them someday. Sometimes I feel like I've forgotten more than I ever knew ;)

I don't know how I could have forgotten to mention Julie's visit! We enjoyed seeing her and the kids on Friday afternoon. Those kids are getting so big! They played great with my kids and everyone had a good time. The funniest part was when they got an ice cream treat for dessert and ate them outside. It was rather chilly - but that didn't stop those kids from squeezing all the fun out of the day that they could. It was a really nice time. So glad that she could come!

Today - I'm busy in my Monday routine. Still working on getting a dryer (up to 4 at my house now!) going. We have one inside that is running - but the clothes aren't getting dry. Still trying to figure it out. DJ say's he'll take 2 dryers off today. That will leave me with 2 dryers. Hopefully we can get something working!

I had to make a list last night of all the little details I didn't want to forget this week. Now if I can just find the list ;)

Can't remember if I mentioned it or not - Mckay is now a bike-rider without training wheels. We're so pleased with her - and planning a family bike ride this evening as part of FHE.

Well this morning has gone differently than I expected. The missionaries called and asked if our family would come to a family home evening an hour later (during the day) for a family investigating the church. They were Spanish speakers - so I think I caught the jist of the activities and lesson. DJ was helping another family move so he wasn't able to come. Kimball is friends with the daughter. Anyway - it was very different from laying around resting all day - it was a lot of fun! We played a game called Papa Caliente (hot potato) - with someone in the middle saying papa caliente, papa caliente, then something else which meant the potato burned. As they chanted the potato was passed in a circle and when they said it burned - the person holding the potato had to do what the person next to them asked them to do - pushups, acting like an animal, etc. It was a lot of fun.

Anyway - my thought today is my own reflection. This family moved here a year or so ago. Their daughter was in Kimball's class. I was helping in the classroom. The teacher asked me to take this girl into the hall and work with her on her English. She was reading to me - and I told her about the English classes and gave her a little card detailing the when and where. Her parents went to a few of the classes that DJ taught. I guess the missionaries ran into the family a bit ago and have been teaching them since. And then today we got a call to help fellowship them. I didn't know they had gone to the classes last year until today. I felt really good that something I did lead to something else. Don't know if this makes sense or not - but it was one of those great moments when you feel like a part of something bigger.

Since getting home (Kimball has her friend over to play), we walked down the street to check on another family I hadn't seen for a week. No luck - they weren't home - but we did meet another neighbor on the way home. Then we checked on an Elderly couple (he is 96 we found out today) who had an ambulance at their house earlier in the week. They are doing OK - but were so pleased when we gave them our name, address, and phone number to call if they need us. They don't have any family nearby. It just adds to my testimony when I feel the spirit of service and friendship. I don't think we really make a habit to go out of the way to be neighborly - but we do what we can and enjoy the holiday season as we have an excuse to go see our neighbors.

Another dry diaper morning! I am really excited - we'll soon be done buying diapers! I know it's probably silly to be so excited about this - but those in the trenches know it takes a lot of diapers to raise 4 children.

So this weekend, we don't have too much going - I've mentioned the main things already. I'm trying to take it easy today (other than cleaning the house a bit before we see Julie and kids). Life just keeps going. I enjoyed Oprah on Monday - about sneaking vegetables into foods - featuring Jessica Seinfeld's new book - Deceptively Delicious. Did anyone else see this? I figure I'll try a few out and if the kids like them - I'll probably get the book.

Potty training continues - and is going well. I've been busy sewing today - got the edged of the quilts bound. Yeah! So on to something else.....I got some scrapbooking books from the library and am looking forward to reading them. Guess I'll have to schedule some sitting around time!

I'm tired and it's 5:00 so I'll make this a short post. Here's a thought: Doctrine and Covenants 18:10 Remember the worth of souls is great in the sight of God.

It's been a nice day here - rainy but nice. Taylor had a dry diaper this morning!! Does that mean I'm letting her wear panties from now on - NO - not yet. But I feel like we're getting closer. It has really been me putting this off - just too many other things competing for my attention. I totally focused on her and Hinckley yesterday and it was wonderful. Such a "good mom" day. I do have to say that yesterday and today she did have damp panties - but didn't make any puddles. I think it's progress. And they aren't damp for long! I don't know if I'm more excited to be done with diapers with her or with my first girl. It's a real toss up - I do see how my parenting style is evolving based on circumstances and different temperments. One of those interospective times I guess.

Anyway - I'm taking it easy for the next few days. Just letting myself be in the moment - not rushing or feeling pressured. Already I'm really enjoying it. I'm starting my Christmas list - because I know I don't want to be shopping at the last minute. I know there are great deals last minute - but I hate the stress and crowds that go along with those deals. We have a family birthday party on Saturday (for the October birthdays) - and I'm mostly set with the gifts for those. 2 nephews....one 11 one 3. We're going to a corn maze for the party. That should be a lot of fun - unless the weather is iky. I've been wanting to get out to a corn maze this year.

I don't know what it is about this time of year - but it seems like I have days where my mind clears a bit even though the aches and twinges are worse. I really appreciate the fog lifting. I feel so ambitious in some ways - so relieved in others. It's just such an adventure seeing what each day will bring. The heating pad is always plugged in these days - and close at hand. I apologize for not checking to see what everyone else is up to. Just writing daily is a task for me. Anway - I'll try to catch up on everyone before the week is out.

As moms, let us remember that we are indeed laboring when we snuggle and love these little ones. They need it and we do too. Our bigger ones need us to listen. As I can only do one thing at a time, sometimes I will feel like I'm not doing anything - but I am. I'm devoting my best efforts - as I've been asked to do.

Thank you for the compliment, Cory! I think I enjoy these things so much because it helps me feel like I haven't lost it all! Ahhhh....thinking back to my days of working as a secretary/computer tech at Ricks....I'll never know that much in proportion to what knowledge is out there as I did then.

We're potty training - and I'm more serious now. I am really tired of buying diapers and I know she can do it! I made a cute potty chart and accompanying toilet stickers (via sticker machine). It's going well today - no accidents yet! I know she wants to do it too - so we'll keep you posted!

I'm getting ready for the ward Super Tuesday tonight - I'm going to do some digital scrapping there. It will be nice to be able to visit and spend some time working on pages for ME!

Wasn't conference great?!? I so enjoyed Sunday morning messages especially. I was paying the closest attention to those so that probably explains why I enjoyed those the most. I had to give the partially done anniversary scrapbook to Dan and Kaye. I'll have to finish the other pages for Christmas.

I have a couple of new favorite programs. I really love Lumapix FotoFusion! It has really simplified the huge picture project into a managable size. I will use it for the kids school pictures and precious assignments too (that huge pile of stuff that is sent home from school).

Yesterday I played with another fun program: FontCreator. I made my handwriting into a font using the program (30 day free trial!) Took a couple of hours - but time well spent so I can put my handwriting on layouts before I print the page. Gives it that personal touch! Here's something that will help you if you want to do this too: http://www.myfirstfont.com/template/characterset1.pdf It's a grid that you write individual letters in. I found the instructions on how to use the grid and the program in a back issue of Scrapbook Answers - Nov 2005. Basically - you fill in the grid, scan it (in grayscale) into your computer - open it in Photoshop (so you can select each letter individually) - and then open Font Creator. Select File then New. Name your font and leave the default settings. You'll double click on each letter in turn to import your handwritten letter. Before you begin this, click on Tools then Import Image and set smooth filter to super if you want sharp corners to be rounded. I just left it at smooth (sharp corners aren't rounded). Click on Glyph tab and set bounding to image. Select the bottom middle button (out of the 9) and enter 500 for the X position and -750 for the Y. Set the size multiplier value based on what dpi you scanned your grid in at - 600 dpi would be set at 6, 300 dpi at 12. I think I scanned at 200 so I used 14. Select the default checkbox (you want a check in it) and press cancel. The important thing is getting the settings right - you don't import through this.
Now it's just clip and paste - select your letter in Photoshop by dragging a box around it - don't select any of the bounding box though. Copy it to the clipboard by pressing Ctrl and C. Then switch to Font Creator (use alt and tab) - Paste image in cooresponding letter box (you already double clicked on) - by pressing Ctrl V. Now just adjust the size of the letter so the top is at 1400 - the bottom at the baseline. The dotted lines need to be to the right and left - they control how much space will be between your letter and the next letter in a word. There was a great little box that popped up - maybe preview that really helped me to adjust as necessary. You just continue clicking and pasting until you get your alphabet done - and any additional symbols you want. Save from time to time....always a good idea. Any letter or symbols you don't use you can remove from your font by selecting - edit then select incomplete the select edit then delete. Save the font. You're pretty much ready to go - just one last thing to do - press F5 to test the font - I found my lowercase g and y extended too far beyond what was allowed so I went back and edited that - and then I was good to go!

I know it sounds like a lot - but once you get the hang of it - it's pretty fun! Who doesn't want a font of their handwriting?!? I don't really "like" my handwriting - but I know my kids will enjoy seeing it more (knowing that it's really my writing) than something else. I'm tempted to make a font of ancestor's writing.....fancy, or even Mimi's! Wouldn't that be fun! I'm not going too crazy - just enjoying thinking about the possibilities.

The tying is done and all I have left is binding the edges. I think I'll wait a couple of weeks before tackling that! I have a major crash weekend comming up - so if I don't post, you'll know why. Just been running too hard for too long.

A neighbor who I met at the bus stop came by last evening to ask if I could watch her son and take him to the bus today for her - she has to work. So we have an extra this morning. The fun/interesting part is that she doesn't speak much English - DJ translated for us. We're the only people she know since they moved here just a couple of months ago. I was so glad that she asked and we were able to help!

I should get busy today and get the printing of the pictures done - the new program is working like a charm! I highly recommend it for getting a bunch of stuff done in a hurry - I love the auto-arrange feature. FotoFusion is the name.

I loved the part of the women's broadcast where the speaker said to ask not that our tasks be equal to our abilities but that our abilities would be equal to our tasks so that our performance would be the miracle. (paraphrased greatly). That truly is my prayer daily - as my tasks always seem to be greater than my abilities. Somehow, I am able to accomplish them with the Lord's help - and it truly is a miracle.

Just a quick check-in. We're in quilt central. Got the tops sewed yesterday and will be tying them today. Don't know if I mentioned - we're doing quilts for my girls for Christmas. DOn't know what I would do without Mom here helping! We're both really tired, but they will get done!

done, done, Done, dONE, DONE! The pictures are done! What a relief to have it done! I'm trying out another scrapbook program - fotofusion. It looks really neat and has a great auto collage feature. How lucky are we to live in this day of computers, cars and modern plumbing! No king in history had it as well as we do!

Today I hope to take it easier - got to crash sometime soon. Maybe I'll have to do 2 or 3 mini crashes.....we'll see.

Well, DJ got the old dryer working again - so I'm saved from buying a new one. I still am a bit leery about it - so I'll only run it when I'm home. We are just glad to have something working!

I am so close to finishing those pictures - I did a ton of work yesterday. Today I have more to do yet - but I can see the end of the tunnel! I feel like celebrating! My little girls are having table time this morning - coloring Halloween coloring pages.

Today's thought: Doctrine and Covenants 50:17-18 Verily I say unto you, he that is ordained of me and sent forth to preach the word of truth by the Comforter, in the Spirit of turth, doth he preach it by the Spirit of truth or some other way? And if it be by some other way it is not of God.

Our most powerful (for good) words are given to us by the spirit - really heartfelt. We are truly an instrument in the Lord's hands as we allow him to guide us in action and word.

Tuesday! Well, I prevailed in the wrestle with the dryer - unfortunately it still doesn't work! My backyard is beginning to look like "where the dryers go to die" - DJ assures me that all 3 non functioning dryers will be removed shortly! I'm about ready to just go out and buy my new stack - but lacking $$ - so I guess we'll do something else. Sometimes I really hate doing the right thing.

I'm working on some new projects today - just little things. I had to go to the craft store for some adhesive and found several other fun things. Let me show you a picture:

The top picture is a recipie card holder. I still have to decorate it to match the kitchen. I got the miniature kitchen items and put magnets on the back. So cute! On the bottom is a calendar of sorts. I've got an idea about putting scrapbook paper on the wood to make something really decorative. I'll work on it more later......

So - we're busy finishing the pictures today. I want to be done today!!!! This has been a crazy enough project to make me tell DJ that if I get any more crazy ideas - he's to remind me that I don't need any more crazy - we're all full up on crazy!

I love to read! I got a few new books from the library that I haven't begun yet - but I'm already looking forward to them. I read The story of Doctor Dolittle last week and finished the Arabian Nights as well as a tale of a Bad Boy. I enjoyed Robert Lewis Stevenson so well I picked up a couple more books of his from the library. Nothing like a good book. But don't forget the best books - the scriptures!

I'm wrestling with a dryer today. Got it mostly back together - now we'll see if it works! My hands and everything else is tired - so this will be short.

Thought: Luke 10:33 - But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him.

I went out home teaching with DJ - and at one of the visits a man expressed feeling isolated and uncared for. He has active neighbors all around - who have never visited him. He is really struggling. I felt bad no one else had been to see him - and I was glad we had gone. I think he had a good point - the church is more than the auxillaries and the callings we have. It's about people. If we forget that - we've really missed the mark. I hope that each of us can seek those around us suffering and show compassion. It needent be anything big - just caring enough to take some time. I'm so excited for the upcomming conference. I look forward to the messages we will hear. I hope to be prepared to hear them

Not much to say today. DJ's been busy taking a tree out for someone. The girls have been playing all day and I've been taking it easy.

Feels like Friday - we are all off tomorrow (DJ and girls) - so today is the last "real" day this week. I have to get on the pictures today - just can't put it off any longer! There are too many projects ahead waiting on that one. So I'll be on the computer all day today. Hopefully progress will be made!

We're singing for the senior singles tonight. Some primary songs and Kimball is playing a piano piece - "We thank the O God for a prophet". It's a fun evening ahead - just a short busy. They have a meal then we perform. It's nice that I'm off the hook for dinner tonight! We've done this once before - so we have somewhat of an idea what we're in for.

Activity days was fun last night - we did the paper dolls and the girls loved them! We had a mother who brings her daughter and a couple of friends not of our denomination who asked about our program. Apparently the friends church does something at the same time - but it isn't as much fun or as age appropriate. So - the other mother wanted to know about our curriculum. We passed along a faith in God booklet and I'm going to get them the address of the yahoo group. Interesting! I think they attend the Nazerene church. We're always glad to have visitors to our group - or share what we're doing. It's all spreading the good word!

On to the thought: Alma 37:35 - Learn wisdom in thy youth

Wisdom being more than just knowledge - the application of knowledge. That really is the goal of youth - to try to make sense of all their learning. In the above incident about Activity days - the other group's most recent topic was Nehemiah. It is great to study the scriptures - but we must apply them to ourselves. My understanding of activity days is that it is to show the children how to live the gospel in our daily lives - not just in our Sunday best. What an inspired program! Anyway - all you college kids keep at it! And those of us not in college - keep at it too!

I guess Tuesday will be a day off from blogs - just didn't get to it....Did see S - she's doing great - and the babies are comming along too. So glad to hear that things are going well for them. I so enjoyed everyone's comments on the thought Monday. It really adds to the feeling that we're all in this together - dealing with similar stresses and trial - even though our time of life may differ. So good to hear everyone's take on things!

I woke up today just sure that it was Thursday. Not sure what that means - I do have a lot going tomorrow...? Anway - school is going well for McKay. She really likes her new teacher. I look forward to going into the school to help out and get a feel for the new class. Maybe next week?

We're so enjoying cooler weather. I've had a fire going in the stove for a couple of days now - it's so nice and toasty! Picked up some orange and black jelly beans at the store to set out for seasonal color - and have discovered that no one in my family likes black licorice! I knew I didn't like it but I figured one of my girls would. Oh, well. We're picking out the black ones and will find someone to give them to.

I decided I wanted to read something - so I'm reading some "classic" stories that we got from the DI a while ago. Just finished THE BLACK ARROW by Robert Louis Stevenson. The old style language was cumbersome - but the story was entertaining and I really enjoyed the twists and turns. I also read Pinocchio earlier this week - the original was very different from the movie ;) - but many elements were the same. Looks like Stories from the Arabian Nights is next (just next on the bookshelf). I am surprised that I never read this books before. They are pretty good - and will keep me busy for a bit. I still have projects in process - but one does have to take breaks :)

Kimball is supposed to read books from several genres: realistic fiction, historical fiction, fantasy, science fiction, mystery, and biography (2 books per month eventually covering all the genres over the school year). I'm excited for her to branch out a bit - but disappointed in the selection her school library offers. She read 2 books yesterday from her school - they just aren't long enough to really challenge her. We're somewhat limited to the school library because she needs to take tests on the books she reads and the school only has tests for books they have. I suppose it helps some kids read more and be motivated - but it seems like it's holding her back. I'd love to have her read a Louis Lamour or maybe even a James Michner. They don't have anything like that at the school. Also - I think she ought to read the biography of Spencer W. Kimball! Anyway - it's a bit of a challenge jumping through hoops that are too low in some ways. I don't know yet how many points her goal is for the year (they earn points based on the tests they take). When the books you're reading are only worth a few points - it takes a lot of books to reach that. And I just don't feel that it's quality reading. Sure babysitter club books are fun - but does it really broaden your world experience or is it just recreational reading?

Sorry for going on about that - it's really on my mind.

I made a rain shield for my jogger stroller - but it's a bit short. I need to get some more plastic vinyl and I'll be set! Yesterday it rained (not while we were out) - and reminded me that I needed to make this cover. The old velcro on the stroller needs replaced as it's not sticky anymore.

That's about it for my world - so on to the thought. Ether 12:6 - And now, I, Moroni, would speak somewhat concerning these things; I would show unto the world that fiath is things which are hoped for and not seen; wherefore, dispute not because ye see not, for ye receive no witness until after the trial of your faith.

So much has been written on faith - and yet I wonder if we really understand it. As the first principle of the gospel - we should continually be trying to understand and use it in our lives. It reminds me of a parenting incident a few days ago. A girl was raging against her designated chores. She had a bit of a cry - and then I had the thought to go talk to her. I asked if she was feeling the Holy Ghost. She said she wasn't - so we each took a turn and prayed. The crying was stopped, the spirit came in and peace desended. She finished her chores and life continued. I'm so glad I had that prompting - and that I chose to follow it. I'm sure we each have experiences like this that are ways we exercise our faith without thinking about it. I'm trying to recognize these for what they are - growing and learning moments. Doesn't mean that we have everything figured out (or anything really) - but that he does and we want to hear what he has to say.

Good Monday Morning! We got McKay off on the bus - she even got to sit with Kimball! She's really excited about her new class - we're anxious to hear the report when she gets home. I've got mountains of laundry to do today - followed by a bit more paper dolls. I learned how to colorize outline clothes with scrapbook papers in PSE. Not that I can explain how I did it.... The patterns for the dolls I got from a great site: http://lds.about.com/cs/ldsclipart/a/paperdolls.htm The clothes are modest. There are many paper doll patterns out there - but I needed to find something about the right age and modesty level.

This week is a busy evening week - something almost every evening. I feel tired already! The crock pot dinners are going well - the girls are even enjoying them!

Thought for today: Matthew 7:12 - All things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them.

Treating others as we would like to be treated is a great plan. I have found with husbands, you need to directly tell them what they can do for you, though. They won't figure out that you want a foot massage if you're massaging their feet - generally. And overall the point is being kind and caring to others - focusing on them rather than ourselves.

After a leisurely sleep-in, we're finally up and going. I had some Egg roll wrappers that needed used up - so I found a breakfast egg roll recipie that we tried today. It was tasty! Basically, you take and make scrambled eggs, add some ham and onions and cheese - and use that for the filling for the egg rolls. Fry as usual. Different - and good. It used up all my wrappers. I had a back-up recipe for mexican egg rolls with taco fillings on the inside too but we didn't get to try that one.

DJ is out cutting down a neighbor's tree today. A nice old gal 93 years young! The neighbor - not the tree! She's still very active and lives alone. We try to keep tabs on her every now and then - and help with projects when we can. Hopefully he'll get that done and be able to get something done here too!

We have a family birthday party today for the September birthdays - Deana and me. I got a cake from Costco - one of the tall round ones - I've always wanted to get one because they look so tasty - but it's too intimidating in size for just our little family. I'll let you know how it tastes! Too bad Kari doesn't live closer to do cakes for us! I haven't got to sample one of hers yet. :)

Later today Jared has a surprise planned for me - we're going to a football game! I guessed and DJ confirmed so I guess it's not a surprise anymore. I don't think DJ and I have ever been to a football game together - so it should be quite the experience!

Well, on to the thought: 1 John 5:5 Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?

That gets me thinking about living in the world but not being of the world....much could be said about that. A new habit I have finally got down is morning prayers. It has taken quite a while to add this to my routine. I've thought about it for years - and finally I'm doing it! It really does make a difference. I'm working now to add some before I get out of bed scripture reading - not a ton just a bit. Little things do add up and help us keep our perspective.

Well, I have some fun ahead on the computer this morning - I'm printing paper doll clothes patterns out - on scrapbook paper and maybe I'll do some custom clothes. Activity Days this next week is paper doll - dressing modestly!

I'm off and running this morning. Not that I'm going anywhere......But still.....I'm hoping to make some progress on something (anything) today. McKay's new class starts on Monday - just got the call from the bus company too! Sounds like exciting times. She's going to have several girls from the ward in her class - so that will add to the fun. School went great yesterday - it is always interesting to see how the children interact with each other. Also - I got a feel for where the children are reading-wise. The teacher had me read a little book the class had already read together (I read it with each child individually. The kids all did great - mostly picture reading. One little girl slipped off the monkey bars and fell on her backside. I felt so bad for her - she had to go to the office and use the ice pack for a while. Anyway - it was good.

Honestly, I probably just say the first thing that comes to mind when my girls ask how old they have to be when they get married. Sometimes it's 25, othertimes it's 35! Kimball then points out that I'm not even 35 :) Smarty pants kid! It's made me more aware that even offhand comments can be really internalized. I'm going to have to think some of these things through!

Thought for today: The power of love. 1 John 4:10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitation for our sins.

Love is a big thing to get our minds around! I like other languages that have more than one word for love - it seems to help describe it better somehow.

Just got the email that S had her twins! We're excited for her and awaiting more information.

Reg - my girls balk at the regular chores as well - but when I use the excitement the school built up and tell them they can do things to earn money for the school - somehow it works. I make sure to keep track of the "school work" they do - maybe that helps as well. I realize that extra funds are needed for certain things - this way works best for me. BTW - I love the book orders as well. They also do a book fair which I love to go to. Maybe I loved the book orders too much when Kimball was little - I have a ton of books - so many that I don't know if we'll actually read them all! They are so fun, though. They do a monthly pizza night - 20 percent of the $ spent goes to the school. So if the pizza is 17.00 - the school is getting just $3.40? I guess multipied by several pizzas - that can be substantial. I just think the pizza is overpriced to begin with....but I know some families really get into that. I guess I can be grateful they have several different types of fundraisers to appeal to different interests and tastes.

So today I'm heading in to help with McKay's class (old one - hasn't switched yet). It should be interesting. They sent home a memo about a child with severe peanut allergies in her class. Seems to be something that is getting more prevalent.

Today's Thought: Prepare for a career. Proverbs 23:12 Apply thine heart unto instruction, and thine ears to the words of knowledge.

What great opportunities we have today to gain an education! Even though I'm not currently in school - I enjoy watching educational programing. I've really enjoyed the series on The Universe! The States was informational as well. I think one can continue learning throughout life - through a variety of mediums. Education is something I'm really into! Kimball had an interesting conversation yesterday when she told a classmate that she wasn't allowed to get married until she graduated from College (We said that in response to a question from the girls as to how old you have to be to get married....not totally serious you know...). A boy she was talking to said that was what his mom said as well and asked if she was LDS. She said yes - and he said me too. Another girl who moved here recently said - We used to be LDS before we moved here from California. Which led to Kimball asking her if she'd like the missionaries to come by (and giving her directions to the church). We'll see where that leads.....But all from the importance of education!

The vertigo comes and goes - mostly gone, though. Yesterday was so busy running around that I didn't get a chance to post. Today will be slower - and I'm glad of that! McKay will be in a new kindergarten class - they had enough students to make an additional class! So we'll be switching to mornings soon.....She's excited because she'll get to ride the bus twice (instead of once) and she'll still walk with me to get Kimball. It's going to work out for the best.

Fundraiser season at school. They had an assembly to get the kids pepped up about selling things - and the prizes they can earn. I'm really not into buying the "stuff" - so I've given my kids an alternative. I'm happy to make a straight donation to the school - in exchange for my girls doing extra chores around the house. It's working well! I figure it's more than the school would have gotten from any purchases I might have made and the girls have to make more effort if they want to support the school. There are additional fundraisers throughout the year, too. This is the only marketing by the children one.

Before I forget - DJ and I are doing a piano duet for Sacrament sometime this month. We'll have to bring the music at Thanksgiving - and maybe we can coax DJ into singing for us too. Coax reminds me of the first time Kimball tried to pronounce that word (her reading is ahead of her pronouciation) - it came out co axe. Very cute!

Today I'm organizing the basement a bit. Just trying to tidy things up - get rid of extra boxes, etc. One of these days I'll have to get back to the computer to work on those pictures. Just not today.....

Thought for today: Age is relative. Psalm 92:14 - They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing.

So much I could say about that scripture....What I will say is that we all have value and can contribute something - regardless of our age or circumstance. What a blessing!
