Mar 31 2007

Well, here it is the end of March! I'm debating about doing some April Fools tricks - but probably won't remember in the morning....Maybe my girls will trick me!
DJ's truck is going great - and might even get done today! I've got my fingers crossed that everything will work once it's started. It's so great to get through all these projects. I even re-arranged my room - taking the cabinets out of the packing boxes and arranging them to look like they're meant to be there. It's better at any rate....

Wasn't the morning session great?!? I enjoyed both morning and afternoon - but especially the morning! The parable of the pickle - I had thought about the canning analogy before and was so excited to hear it spoken about in conference. Also - the talk about prayer, and the one about using words carefully! Those really spoke to my heart. What was your favorite talk today?

Question for today: Tell about the house (s) you lived in during your childhood. Do you remember the addresses or phone numbers?

I only remember the "main" house I grew up in. Of course I know the address and phone number because my parents still live there! I can recall the streets Grandma and Granpa lived on in the nearby town as I was growing up - where we often visited them. I could probably still tell you the phone number they had there - I memorized it in case I needed them - like if anything happened to my parents :) Silly, probably, but it seemed important to me.

Have a great conference everyone!

Mar 30 2007

My journal jar is getting less and less full! That's a good feeling. The girls have slept great in their new beds - especially since they aren't waking each other by moving around. DJ's dad built a bed for them back in the day - and DJ still talks about it. I think he is really getting a kick out of building this himself!

It's been a rough morning - I had to bind the edge of a humanitarian quilt that our activity days girls had tied. I learned from the experience that I can not "do" quilts anymore. My hands really hurt - and I didn't do a very good job. It's done - but it's not pretty! And that was doing it with the sewing machine. After today - I don't think I'll be sewing much - not that I did before - but now I can't. That's taking a mental toll - feeling like I can't do something is really hard for me because I used to be able to do anything. I think if I had to I could and I would just hurt for a while after - but since I don't have to.....

The girls have really enjoyed our books lately. I freed up a shelf for their books (in their reach) and they have had so much fun toting those books around, looking at them and trying to read them. I have read more books to them in the past week than in a long time! Of course, the books all over the floor aren't much fun - but it hasn't been as bad as I expected!

Question for today: Write a want ad that described your father.

Wanted - someone who needs a lot of excitement. Must have a sense of humor and ability to comprehend the incomprehensible. Eight adorable children will look to you for guidance and understanding. Most skills will be learned on the job - so experience is not necessary. You will need to be the emotional stability for the family. The hours are long but the appreciation lasts a lifetime (and beyond!). The real reward will come as the children have children of their own and learn what a great dad you were. Actions and attitude will be emulated - so be careful! Love you dad!

Well, that's pretty good for today. Make it a good one!

Mar 29 2007

THE BUNK BED IS DONE - we'll pretty much.

You can see that the trundle is incomplete - we are just sliding the mattress for now. And I'm OK with that. We'll get it done sometime - but now DJ's truck is waiting for it's new transmission - so he'll be working on that all weekend. I just hope it gets done!

Thanks for the flower input from yesterday - I was drawing a bit of a blank on that question. I enjoyed hearing your responses - they were interesting to me!~

It's been a busy day: I got up early and took the kids to watch Grandma Flora for a little bit - then back home to play with friends. We had a great time! I'm ready for a nap. I'm so glad that we have a Friday tomorrow - it's going to be a take it easy day here. We've all earned it.

Question: Tell about a special date you had with a boy/girl friend, your fiance.

A special date....well I have had a few of those in my day. I just can't recall details on them. I remember a date DJ and I had where he took me to a fancy dance/dinner at the college. They even had some sort of entertainment. I remember this was just a couple of days before he got up the courage to kiss me. Talking about it now - he really wanted to kiss me that night - but was just too scared. I think it was a Monday night that he first kissed me - just a quick peck and he rushed out the porch door - I went inside and my roomate looked up and said - "He kissed you, didn't he?" It was a statement more than a question. I said yes - and felt a little sad about it because it was my first kiss and it wasn't anything great. She had some good perspective for me that evening - and the kisses got better. It's fun to look back and remember things like this.

The best kisses now are the ones when my girls are watching and they say "Ick" but are smiling really big because they know we love each other.

Mar 28 2007

To clear up confusion - it was Taylor that was whapped! She is doing great, though. I wish it was warmer here so they could get outside and enjoy spring break. The house gets feeling pretty small with 4 girls running through it hollering. My phrase of the day today seems to be - Calm down!

Yesterday was quite the day - I have forgotten the details already - but as we had planned to go to the temple, I should have expected a doozey! It just kept going and going. I was so glad to get to bed last night. Today we don't have anything planned so the girls are a bit restless. We might have to come up with some errand to run.
It's cold so I don't even want to leave the house!

Here's a fun link that makes me chuckle - as if it's at all attainable!

http://j-walk.com/other/goodwife/index.htm

I had heard that analogy about him/whom on Oprah on Monday - but still had trouble figuring that sentence out. Thanks for the help, Reg!

Question for today: If you could be a flower, which one would you choose to be and why?

Didn't see that question coming! Lets see - a flower......I like lots of flowers. Can you tell I'm stalling a bit? Probably some flower that would become a fruit. As President Hinckley says - it's not enough to be good - you have to be good for something. I like peaches - so I'll say a peach blossom! There is always more than one blossom on the tree - and I think that would be comforting for me - knowing there were others in the same boat - hoping that it doesn't frost. Wanting to reach their potential. That reminds me of a great picture I have:

This is part of one of our peach trees from last year. Several of the braches broke because we didn't thin the fruit enough early on. If you look hard, you can see the support stick holding the branch up. You know, even though part of the tree was broken, the fruit still ripened just fine! Anyway, that's my answer for today!

Mar 27 2007

Thank you for your posts, everyone! I do enjoy reading what you have to add. It helps me appreciate things I forget to appreciate. I get to know you better, too!

Alas, the bed is not all put together. I probably should have been in there helping them last night, however we had an incident that prevented me from doing that. Over at Jared & Cory's they have a new tire swing that met Biscut's nose and head. Clean knocked her off the ground! She was really clingy after that and even had to share my nightly bathroom rituals with me. Why is it when our little ones are hurt, we give them more attention than they probably need? I could have been firm and insisted she lie down with her sisters. I think I felt a bit guilty for not protecting her better and was trying to compensate by giving her attention. There wasn't anything I could have done, really. She just ran right into the oncoming swing - and it was coming fast! Anyway, I snuggled her all evening - right up to the point I tucked her little sleepy head into the hideaway bed in the back with her sisters. I do like it when they snuggle to sleep! The cost was the bed. There are four posts standing with some side supports. It probably won't even get done tonight though - we're finally getting to the temple!

DJ left our camera at work, so I can't even post any pics today - of the partial bed, or Biscut's nose! Hopefully all will improve before I'm able to post pictures :) That little girl had some head trauma while Grandma Sue and Grandpa Chuck were here, too! She got a nice cut in her head after slipping in her shoes and falling into the corner of the bookshelf. While we were trying to control the bleeding, I got a call from her doctor's office - rescheduling the June appointment for late July! That's planning way in advance! I almost laughed at the irony - her head still gushing while I'm rescheuling months in advance. Anyway, crazy times!

The girls are excited because the Visiting teachers (and kids in tow) are comming this afternoon. I'm thinking there's no way I can get the house looking even close to normal. When the kids come they get into every possible room, it seems. Oh, well! I guess they'll know me all the better! I don't think I've done the laundry test with these sisters. You know - when you have a huge pile of laundry on the couch they normally sit on - just to see what they're going to do. That's always entertaining. I have a new VTer coming today who I haven't met before. (Should that be who or whom? I can't figure it out.) It's always nice having someone to talk to - or listen to as the case may be.

I do have something that I could use your help with! I had some pencil on the fridge (stainless steel) that I used an eraser to get off. Well, now I have eraser marks that I can't get off. Any suggestions? I've tried several things - special cleaning gel, baking soda, etc. I just am out of ideas and haven't been able to find any suggestions online. Can anyone help?

OK - finally the question: What kid of music do you like? Any memories associated with specific music?

In the car, I listen to a lot of talk radio - or classical music station. That is the most calming when I'm driving. The classical, not the talk. I think that I could listen to about anything - for a short time. Some of the caliope music can drive me crazy after just a few minutes - but even at that - sometimes it suits my mood best. I keep thinking it would be great to memorize all the hymns. Someday....

I remember a tape that I had as a kid - some kind of classical music that I love to listen to and spin in circles to as I listened. I think of that anytime I hear that music (which is not that often). I'd have to say that's my strongest memory of music. Another song is "Somewhere out There" - that fivel mouse song. It was on the radio as DJ was driving me back to school after an evening at a bigger town. I was sleepy but could still hear the song. The heater was on too - I think. So it's a warm, sleepy memory.

I do have a variety of different music CD's - lest you think that I only listen to classical.

I think I'll put some music on right now! Have a great day!

Mar 26 2007

Yesterday was a recovery day - and I had a wonderful series of naps! Church was nice, too. This morning we went shopping for a couple of things we need and already have another list started for next time. The guys got back Saturday evening - 10 minutes before six and got the fire going - so when we arrived at 6:15 there were coals for the hot dogs. It was really fun! I was especially glad they had cooperated with getting back! We're starting to make a list of what needs done before Dad's graduation in May - just an organized list to keep us on track.

Question for the day: What makes you feel good? (occasion, food, person, etc.)

That's a good question. Food sometimes makes me feel good, but sometimes not so good. I enjoy having something to look forward to - sometimes more than the actual even itself. I enjoy spending time with my girls and DJ. DJ has to be my favorite person to spend time with. We had a lot of time while we were dating and it spoiled me - I want more of his time than he has to give, usually. I enjoy spending time visiting with my girlfriends - it's always nice to feel understood! I enjoy reading books, working on the computer (in moderation).

Find something you like to do today - and do it!

Mar 24 2007

I almost wrote 2004! Crazy me....

Thanks for the advice about the guest quarters. I'll take it under advisement. We have had to add a few things to the regular stuff to accomodate our regular guests over the last few years - Gogurt, for dad a must; Grandma Sue bread and cheese (white sandwich bread and process cheese); and Strawberry Ice Cream (for Emmanuel. This hasn't been a difficult transition. We just know they feel extra welcome when we have special things for them. Amanda and Gabriel haven't made any requests.

THAT BUNK BED! I'm trying hard not to be frustrated today but DJ is off hiking while the bed is still in pieces (some needing stain) outside. I went and picked up the new mattresses. They are sitting in the living room now. I need some perspective here....I'm grateful that the boards are almost all stained - we will be able to put it together Monday night at the latest. I just can't justify assembling it on the Sabbath when DJ went hiking today. The girls are going to be sleeping so much better, I just know it! What a blessing to have the means to get this done - and not have to wait longer for it! OK, I'm feeling a bit better now. We'll survive this! I just SO need a date night!

The question of the day: Between the ages of 5 and 10, what was your favorite activity?

I am not really sure - I liked playing barbies, I liked reading, I liked playing outside, and I liked watching afternoon (after 3 pm) cartoons. Can't really narrow it down further. I don't have enough memory of that time to think of specific things. That's a big gap - 5 to 10. The difference of what Kimball enjoys vs what Mckay enjoys. Anyway, I had a great time doing whatever it was that I enjoyed.

While the guys are off hiking - the girls are preparing a hot-dog roast! We're going to meet them at the trailhead and have a little dinner of hot dogs, chips, drink, and smores! It should be a great time! They are supposed to be back by 6 - so I'll let you know if they make it. My bet is that they are late - but I could be wrong. It's happened before :) Have a great evening!

I forgot to mention - don't miss the Planet Earth series on Discovery Channel! It looks like a real feast for the eyes - and begins tomorrow! I saw a bit about it on Oprah - and it looked wonderful. Gave me a feeling like I had watching the "movie" in Soylent Green - if anyone's seen it - the movie at the end (you'll know what I mean). If you haven't seen Soylent Green, put it on the Netflix list! I think it has Charlton Heston in it? Not sure - but it's a good one to see - a period piece done in the 70's I'm guessing.

Mar 23 2007

What a day - and it's just 11:09 am. I am going to try to hurry through this post because I've overdone with the sander and my hands just ache! I really don't have to sand, it's just if I want the bunkbed to get done, I feel like I need to help. DJ is going on a hike with the guys tomorrow - noon to 6. So the prime work time is taken. I'd REALLY like the bunkbed to be up before Sunday - but it looks like it might not make it :( Also - comming in to move the clothes through the laundry - I discovered that my washer doesn't want to work anymore! Don't know how that happened - I just finished a load. The water doesn't fill - doesn't even come on! I've got to go to my favorite do-it-yourself site. Here's the link: http://www.repairclinic.com/

Have to add some pics today:

The girls room - before the bunk bed. This is in preparation - so I can also post an "after"

And, Hinckley took the most flatering picture of me - take a look!
OK, so it's a little blurry - I'll put a good one on soon - my hair has been growing since my Mother of the Year shot....Also, I've got my painting clothes on - in case I get to stain anything.
I think the crisis cleaning stems out of expectations - or percieved expectations. Well, over the past few years, Dad has seen the real us - and I think Mom has too. I am just too tired to even do the 15 to 20 minutes it would take. I had the best of intentions..... A little funny - they do have their own "guest towels" - I make sure are up and out for them to use. We got these great dark green towels (for my birthday a few years back) - and as dad would come - they turned into guest towels. Thanks Cory & Jared! But, for the record, I don't put chocolates on their pillows at night.
Also - have to tell you - We (DJ and I together) have 39 ancestors that the DUP has some information on! We are really excited to see what they have and get some great stories to share!
Question: Tell about your favorite uncle.
I really don't think I have a favorite uncle - they tend to be a bit more distant than the aunts. I have great memories of all my uncles - and more memories of a couple in particular. They are very different personality-wise but each is deeply committed to his family. That is the best example they have given me and I'm so glad that I've had the time over the years to get to know them as an adult.

Mar 22 2007

Hey there - we've been over to visit Grandma Flora this morning and got Kimball's new retainer! I'm glad we went. Flora has Alzheimers and is getting worse. My sis-in-law Tina is the angel taking care of her during the day. After a brief visit with Flora last week I realized I needed to visit Tina - so today we went and we plan on going on a weekly basis from here on out! It's so sad to see Flora get worse and worse - the surprise today being that Flora found the bathroom on her own! You can't help but have compassion for her, but her care is so draining! She's sure she lives somewhere else and is always asking to go home. I'm glad I took time several years ago to visit with her and hear many of her stories because she doesn't remember them now. I remember her telling me about her grandmother who shared a bed with her when she was a little girl. That grandma made her memorize all of her children's names - she had been married twice. She could still recite them when she told me this story a few years ago. Today she didn't remember her grandma - but did correct my pronouciation of her name :) It's still in there - somewhere!

We are excited to see Grandma Sue and Grandpa Chuck. They are supposed to be here tomorrow morning, sometime! That reminds me....I have some cleaning to do. Are any of you like that - have to clean because Mom is comming, not because it's really dirty or anything? Well, I'll do that after I finish writing for today.

I found the DUP online and put a link on our family site. Here's a link to the DAR: http://www.dar.org/natsociety/pi_lookup.cfm#lform
It isn't as easy to look up people on this site....:( I'll have to look again when I have more time!

Question: Describe your conversion to the gospel.

In one word: Ongoing. More than anything, lately, I've realized that my knowledge and testimony continue to grow in ways I didn't realize that they would. It's a blessing to have the gospel - and there are so many things to learn and know - but until you really "feel" the truth of what you're doing - it's just blind obedience. I am glad that I continue to learn and grow - it seems like the saying is true: The more I know the more I realize what I don't know.
The missionaries message last night was great - Alma 50. They had visual aids - a mini city, with the fortifications around. They had labeled the fortifications with various things: the mounds of earth were faith, repentance, baptism, Holy Ghost. It was really nice. An important reminder that we need to protect our homes and families. Just a week until General Conference! We're going to go through our 72 hour kits and make sure everything is as it should be. I look forward to feeling the wonderful spirit we have when we listen to conference!

One other little tidbit, I had a doctor's appointment this week - it went fine. Just waiting for test results. As I was "checking out" - the gal helping me asked about why I had come in - realizing that it was highly personal and all. I was more than happy to answer her question. She indicated she had some things she would like to get checked out - I told her all she had to do was go down that hall....She thanked me sincerely for being so open with her. As I see it, I could have evaded her question or refused to answer. Being open helped her to see that if an issue is bugging us - we can either just put up with it or get something done. I think she was hesitant because she felt like it was really no big deal. To the doctor is probably is no big deal, but to her - it's big! Even the scriptures say - Men are that they might have joy. This reminds me of a song we heard at Enrichment last week - Enjoy to the End!
Do what you can to make life more enjoyable - we don't get extra credit for wallowing!

Mar 21 2007

I was going to say something about my yellow room - but I think I have a plan - we'll unpack the cabinets being stored in there - and arrange them to look like furniture :) I'll let you know how it goes.....DJ has informed me that he has a counter-top deal in the works (for the bathrooms). I'm hoping it's a great deal!
It's a wonderful spring day here - the sun is bright and I'm trying really hard not to get out and overdo things.
I gave up on the idea of the little ones naps today - their sleep schedule is still "off" and maybe this will help get it back on track. When they don't nap - they go to bed really well! I could really use a nap, though! Maybe I'll take a quick one after Kimball gets home.
The girls are playing a game: they are the "blue" team as they all have blue jackets on and there is an imaginary "pink" team they are competing against. What fun! They were watching the Backyardigans this morning so that might have contributed to their play.

It's been a couple of days since I added a link. This is a great company that I have bought several things from. - usually through other distributors. Check it out:
http://www.klutz.com/catalog/product/1160/

Question for today: What does the mail mean to you? Are you a good letter writer? Who do you or have you corresponded with?

It's always fun to get actual letters or cards in the mail - however, with the internet it is increasingly easier to just email someone. The new Post Office idea about the forever stamps that will always be good - is interesting. I think my strategy would be to try and buy as many as possible at the introductory low price - and feel extra clever! I don't usually send out much mail - and most of my mail is bills due. That can be discouraging. I don't like the plethera of advertising and "junk" mail that comes. I think I can write a good letter, when I need to. I don't currently correspond with anyone.

I will give you a little tidbit that might be fun. I got really ambitious a few weeks ago on a Sunday when I was home with sick girls. I decided to make some fancy mailing envelopes. I made a shape template using an envelope - then cut out the same shape in scrapbook paper. Basically, you have an insert that goes just inside the gummy sticky part of the envelope - clear down inside it. I felt very clever and made way more than I'll use anytime soon. Now I have to make cards to match! Speaking of cards, have you discovered the e-cuts cards? I think they're great! I only have a few of them but I've used the idea in my scrapbooking program (with a card pulled into it as a template) and made my own cards too! It's a way to have those cute cards in a managable format! Here's the link:http://www.computerscrapbook.com/ecaviall.html
Wow - two links in one day! What a great day! Enjoy!

Mar 20 2007

Today is rather glum outside - but I have high hopes for it! Yesterday the forsythia was so beautiful I had to take a picture - so here's the view from the front window to brighten your day:

I so appreciated everyone's comments on yesterday's blog - you said many of the same things that DJ had said - trying to help me to look at it from a different perspective. The elders are coming by tomorrow - so we'll get to talk more with them. We have some of the greatest elders - they are really doing a great job!

I'm hoping to get to the school for a bit - then I have an appointment this afternoon - so my kids get sitters for most of the day. We've got them fooled into thinking it's a treat for them - us getting out! So as Kimball would say - it's a win-win!
Question: Do you remember any of your grandparents? Any great-grandparents? What were their names? Any memories you may have?
Oh, I have so many memories and was blessed to know all four of my grandparents (some better than others :)) and even one great-grandma. I won't list the names on the blog....but I could probably write a book about the memories I have of my grandparents. Especially precious are Grandma Jo and Grandpa Gene. They are such wonderful people who have always encouraged their grandchildren to achieve and grow. The times we have together are very special to me. One specific memory that is very tender - DJ and I sat down with them one evening to record a video personal history of Grandma - with Grandpa adding input too. We spent hours talking, taking snack breaks, sharing stories and feeling of their spirit. We truly saw them in a different light - not just in their roles as grandparents, but as individuals who had lived full and rich lives. We talked well into the night - getting to bed finally well after midnight. What a wonderful opportunity! I wish I could have done that with all my grandparents but some I met too late - after much of the vitality and memories had faded. Thank you so much Grandma Jo and Grandpa Gene for all the memories! Can't wait to see you again!

Mar 19 2007

Oh, how I enjoy these blogs too, Reg! It really adds a nice dimension to life - hearing how things are going for everyone - and hearing their personality through the words. I am truly looking forward to getting together and visiting more! I think it will be more like old friend, rather than family you just occasionally see.

Quick note about today - Kimball lost her retainer last Thursday - threw it away at lunch...and didn't tell DJ until this morning - didn't tell me at all. We checked with the school to make sure all efforts to recover it had been expended - and they were. She goes in this afternoon to be fitted for a new one...and will get it Thursday. I had a talk with her (drove down to the school and pulled her out of class) - and told her that while I would be a bit upset we couldn't make things better until she told us about it. I think the message got through...I hope!

What adventures we had yesterday! DJ reminded me that it is just how it should be, though.

We had ward conference - and they had asked DJ and I to say the prayers in Sacrament Meeting. I got to be closing :) I was a bit nervous about that to begin with - and then we heard that an investigator was comming that we had met a couple weeks before and someone asked us to save her a seat - so we did. Little history - she was in the paper this past week talking about her experinces as a meth addict. OK - back to the story. She has seemed normal enough before - but sitting next to her I got a new perspecitve. She had a lot of questions and asked them as soon as they came to mind. So between visiting with her and wrestling the kids - I didn't really hear much of the talks. I had no idea what to say as it came time for me to go give the prayer - so I just mentally reached out to heaven for the words. It was really nice - I was able to say an appropriate prayer. I truly felt blessed. My new friend has a very short attention span and didn't really hear much of the meeting either, I don't think. She was really hungry and I was glad I had brought snacks....a soda even appeared as we sat on the front row in Relief Society - possibly she had brought it herself. Again - lots of visiting, questions, and text messaging going on. It was her first time to Relief Society - and we got some interesting looks until we got to the middle and the stake president asked if there were any questions - her hand popped right up and she said - "What is the Relief Society - and what does it do?" Then she gave enough history that everyone knew she was investigating. She had heard about the RS at her NA meeting. She said she wanted to get involved - if they allowed non-members. She does have a baptism date set - so we're hoping....

That was during church - then I went home and had a quick sandwich before going out visiting. One of the sisters just was released from Primary - so she's got some family in the ward, but not many friends. It was so nice to visit with her - and gave her a chance to talk about job troubles, etc. For those who have read the message - it is about being an instrument in the Lord's hands through listening to and following the promptings of the Holy Ghost. We really got talking about tools - and I came to realize that sometimes we think we serve best as a "hammer" if you will - when actually the Lord needs us to be a screwdriver. We grow the most by not limiting our vision of what instrument (or tool) we can be - just being available. I want to be in the tool box that is frequently used - not the one with rusty tools in the shed or basement. All the messages this year have given us instructions on how to best prepare to serve. The song with the phrase - The errand of angels is given to women, and this is a gift that as sisters we claim.... comes to mind. What wonderful things can happen when we're willing. All the Lord needed me to do was to sit by that investigator - I didn't even have to know all the answers to her questions. This is the good stuff: During our Sunday School class she said that if it wasn't for me and DJ she wouldn't have come back (from a previous visit) - and I don't even know what we did that was that great! I was truly humbled to see that I had been allowed to serve as an instrument in the Lord's hands.

On to the question: Did you have a favorite toy as a child? Did it have a name? What memories are connected with it?
I did have a teddy bear that I got as a 2 year old. I called it TB. I loved it so much and would snuggle it at night. It is over at my MIL's - but I took a picture before it left here - and I'll always have the memories. The girls enjoy having toys at Grandma's to play with.

Thank you for adding your memories - I think that's what this is all about - really feeling of each other's spirit and understanding each other in ways we never have before. Love you!

Mar 18 2007

Quick entry - visiting teaching sunday and I'm just a big talker - I was out from 2:30 to 6 pm visiting 2 homes. Very nice visits though -

Question: Describe the most serious illness you have had.

Mortality - You'll die from it every time :) That was DJ's comment when I asked him what my most serious illness was. I think I would say the flu - when I was expecting Mckay - I had the flu twice and one of the times was sick for 2 weeks solid. That was really terrible. When I was a kid I had tonsillitis many times I know - until they finally took my tonsils out.

Have a nice day - I'll write more about my adventures tomorrow.....

Mar 17 2007

Happy St. Patrick's day everyone! It's been busy already - Kimball had activity days this morning - Stake. DJ continues to sand the wood. When will it be assembly time????? He also has to stain it. We're heading to the family birthday party this afternoon - the extended family here celebrates birthdays monthly - so it's a nice way to stay in touch!

Question: Describe your first home/apartment as a young couple.

Well, our first little home was in the motorhome - we lived there over the summer before we returned to Ricks - then at Ricks we lived in a basement apartment with an older couple above us. Their youngest had just returned from his mission - so they can't have been too old. The motorhome was nice - just right for only 2 :) The basement apartment was just a 1 bedroom, 1 bath - so it worked well too - just was really dark!

Have a great green day!

Mar 16 2007

Just a short post today. DJ has been under the weather all week - I think it's mostly allergies. So he started taking the meds a few days ago - and should be feeling better soon. Anyway, he decided to stay home to try and get feeling better - it's turned into an additional day to work on the Triple Bunk w/trundle. I just want it done - but I'm not pushing him. I used the girls help today to transfer clothes - and what a job that was - we started at 10 and it's 1:00 now. I was also able to sort through spring/summer and put away fall/winter. I'm feeling really productive and everything is tidy right now. I know it won't last but it sure is nice for now.

Question: Were there any events, world or local or personal, that changed your life?

I think this has been covered all ready - but in short - no world or even local events that have directly changed my life - and that's a good thing. I'm sure we all have personal events that have changed our lives. I continue to reflect on those and write about them from time to time. These are the stories that our kids will want to hear someday....

Have a great day everybody! And yes, I'll post pictures of the bunks when they're done - but for now - you didn't want to see the pile of clothes - trust me!

Mar 15 2007

I'll have to get that to you, Grandma - that would make a fun little scrapbook - with pictures and stories :)
Well, yesterday I went and got a blood glucose meter. My friend who reads my blog is probably thinking - you didn't need to buy one - I'd have lent you mine! I know....I just wanted to have one of my own - because I know a few people who are going to want to borrow mine. I want to be able to see what happens with my blood sugar as my doctor has suggested I'm hypoglycemic. I'll let you all know how that goes. In the meantime, I continue to search the web for ideas and suggestions - and today I found a really interesting one - Potatoes instead of Prozac. Don't believe me? Here's the site: http://www.radiantrecovery.com/4r.htm There are other "steps" as well - but I'd never heard of potatoes at bedtime before. I do like hashbrowns.....who knows - I might just give it a try!

Todays question: Tell about a frustrating experience you've had on wash day...withthe machine....the outcome of the clothes.

So many stories I could tell - lots related to the squeaky dryer - but since DJ has stopped the squeak, I won't complain about that :) The best story I have is back in 2001 - we had a new baby Mckay and Mom had just left to go back home after spending some time with us. I think she left on Thursday - and that evening the dryer quit working - we discovered later a wire had burned out - and disconnected. So, Friday I was trying to get something done - and not making much headway with all the laundry. That evening Mckay (9 or 10 days old) had a fever over 100 - I don't remember exactly what it was - but since she was a second child and a big baby (over 10 lbs) I just gave her a little bit of Tylenol and figured we'd check on her in the morning. The fever was still going strong - so I thought we should take her in - just to be safe. We dropped Kimball off at Activity Days (quarterly) and figured we'd pick her up when we were done - it couldn't take longer than an hour or two. Well, the doctor was quite concerned because of how young she was and insisted on hospitalizing her - so we were busy with that and had Grandma Kaye pick Kimball up. I stayed at the hospital all weekend with her - they never figured out why she had the fever - but they ruled out the serious concerns. We went home Monday morning - and I think DJ got the dryer fixed on Monday evening. I was out of so many things, clothes-wise. It was pretty dire. That's about the worst we've had - laundry wise. I guess we could have taken things to the laundromat - but it would have probably been on Sunday doing laundry and I really don't like to do that.

Doing the wash as I write.....and I am so grateful that it all works like it should! Have a great one!

Mar14 2007

I'm doing pretty good today - and even made it to our RS birthday dinner last night - didn't overdo too much! Sometimes it takes a day or two to "hit" mie, though - so I'm going slow. I'm trying to get through a stack of books from the local library - today I skimmed though Parents guide to raising a gifted child. It is a bit old as the computer games it talked about had Atari in the name :) However, it did have a great section on games to play with your kids - and with Aaron's new blog - one game stood out : The Minister's Cat

from the book: The Minister's Cat is a chanting game that can be played in the car or around the table with a group of just about any size. A rhythm is more or less established, everybody clapping hands or hitting knees or something like this in cadence. One player begins the game by saying "The Minister's cat is an angry cat," or any kind of a cat as long as the adjective begins with the letter a. The next player, without breakins whatever rhythm exists, must use a different adjective, also beginning with the letter a. This continues until a player can't think of an unsed adjective beginning with a. The punishment for this failure is that the player must now start with a b adjective. The game continues in this manner as far through the alphabet as everybody can stand. In addition to the obvious "language arts" practice, the game challenges the players' ability to coordinate motor and cognitive elements at the same time.

I think I've seen this game featured in some old movies - it sounds familiar anyway.....not that I've ever played it - but Kimball would think it was fun, I think. In a similar vein - I've been thinking of several games I want to make - but I needed blank playing cards so as I was on today, I found a source and thought I'd pass it on: http://www.eaieducation.com/530658.html
I'm not sure these have that "glossy" finish on them - but in googling blank playing cards I found a couple of other sites with more expensive cards that are glossy. Does anyone have any experience with this type of product - if I want to print on them what would work best? I'm going to make a set of cards for Kimball's game (we are duplicating the game so each girl gets one if that makes sense - and I thought the game cards would be nice). Also - I've wanted to make a family history type game with the old pictures we have - maybe a match game of some sort.

Well, that's probably enough fun for now....on to the Question:

Tell about each of your children - names, birth dates and where, doctor, circumstances surrounding the birth, characteristics and differences, raising them in your home, problems, joys, sorrows, accomplishments, etc.

Well, nothing like a short-answer question! This is just too personal and lengthy to answer on the blog. I put in on anyway, so if any of you are answering these questions for yourself, you can add this to the list :)

Have a great day - and if you have time, play a game :)

Mar 13 2007

Mother's Big Helper! Jessica, my niece is over today - and was by yesterday helping me with some things that would otherwise not get done. Today she cleaned the grill, and is sanding the lumber for the triple bunk - I probably forgot to mention that since DJ has patched up the dryer - that new machinery is on hold - so that's how we're managing the room changes and the new bunk-bed. We don't really have a money tree :)
I'm feeling really lucky to have her help - although I was out working with her yesterday and am feeling it today....it still feels great getting things done!
I happen to think she bears a resemblance to my cousin's wife - Jaime. You can't really see it from these pics - she wasn't feeling especially like getting her pic taken in the first place - so I'm lucky to have these :)
Some interesting information - when I married DJ - Jessica was just 4 - going on 5. I remember us taking her and her little brother for an outing before we were even engaged. How the time has flown.....
Yesterday we worked on fence lengths like this - Jessica would take them apart - then I called DJ and asked really nice if he would tell me how to unlock the chop saw. He complied and I cut it all up .... you can see the pile it made....
Wow! What a lot of work done!
I saw this in the newspaper on Sunday and thought about the potential:
I know we would only use it a portion of the year, though - but wouldn't that be fun!
Question: Do you remember a special birthday part you've had, given, or been to? Describe it - people, food, games, etc.
I do have a special birthday I remember - just not sure how old I was. I'm thinking I had turned 15 or 16. My birthday was always around the same time as the fair - so this year my parents had bought me a wristband - allowing unlimited rides on the amusements - and I got to go to the fair with my friends - unsupervised. My friends were older and had drivers' licenses - I didn't yet....Anyway - the freedom and unexpected sensitivity to what I wanted to do (at that age) really touched me. That is one of my favorite birthday memories. I'm sure we had a big birthday dinner too - that was always part of the birthday thing.
A recommendation from Jessica today (as we were listening to MY choice of music - yesterday we listened to hers....) was Daughter of a King. She says its really good and she even sang a song from it in church a few weeks ago. Here's the link: http://deseretbook.com/store/product?sku=4964383
I'm going to check it out - she doesn't often recommend music. Have a great day, everyone!

Mar 12 2007

We had a little funny this morning that made me chuckle, then think...I was getting the girls their breakfast - toast and bananas. I informed them that they would get a half. Hinks had a real problem with this and insisted she wanted a whole - I kept saying - it's just a half. She then said - a whole-half? And I said yes - a whole half (meaning all of the half). She was quite pleased about this and didn't have any further problem. I thought it was cute and then got thinking - how often am I dissastisfied with a percieved half- instead of thinking of it as a whole-half! Anyway, it seemed a bit profound to me, and I hope I can keep that thought with me today.

Question: Tell about a favorite aunt.

Yes, that really is the question of the day - I didn't make it up. I am going to change it a bit, though because I really don't have a favorite aunt - I have two. These are the aunts on one side of my family - the side I know the best and have the most experience with. I know I've talked about them before but they really are great! I appreciate each of them for the unique talents and personalities they have. If you've ever done the color code personality test, you know that it is interesting to see some of the characteristics that people similar to yourself have. My aunt Becky is probably closer in personality to myself (or I am closer to her - however you look at it) - A red/blue combination. I'm about half and half - I don't know about her exactly, but I'm sure she has some red in there....probably some white too. Red is the get it done stuff. White is the peacemaking part. My aunt Sharon I'm sure has some yellow in her personality. She is one who keeps the fun going - who always has some exciting adventure either planned or in the works. I love them both dearly. I think that as they age, they are both gaining strengths in the other areas - becoming more balanced (color-wise). I think that means that you're more versatile in any situation. Thanks for being such great aunts!

If any of you who read my blog have taken the color test and want to share - I would definately be interested in hearing about your results! Of course this entry wouldn't be complete without a link to the test:

Have a great day!

Mar 10 2007

Sunday - and we all made it to church! It was really nice - and the girls were even fairly well behaved.
Jared and Cory are comming for dinner - so it will be fun! I still haven't got into the Rhodes Sunday habit - but I want to - I just have a tough time remembering to get the rolls - I haven't seen them at Costco.
My link for today is church-related: http://familiesinzion.net/lessons.html

Question: Tell about your early romances.

Well, another can of worms! There are many stories that could be told, most of which won't be - I dated a variety of young men - ranging in age (over many years) from 16 to 26. They were from various backgrounds - one even from Singapore! Anyway, the important tidbit being that none were all that much of a "romance'! I had some friends, sure, but DJ was my first kiss! So, in my mind, the romance keeps going (hopefully) - and my job is to help it any way I can. I'm glad that DJ is like-minded. That's worked well for us so far.

As I say to DJ - Over and out!

Mar 10 2007

Hello Again! The morning is bright and DJ is ready to get out and get some cleaning up done - the side yard still needs work and I have a couple of small trees that started from the neighbor's tree seeds that need dug up. That will be so nice to get done. He's also been talking about getting a big roller of some kind that you roll over the grass after it's rained - and it flattens out the little bumps. We have plenty of little bumps - so that would work a lot better than tearing up all the grass and re-seeding!

Question: What kind of extracurricular activities did you participate in when you were in school?

I was in speech and debate, Academic Decathalon, Quiz Bowl, Partners Club, and Seminary Council. I think that's it.....

Mar 9 2007

Today will be busy in some ways, take it easy in others. Mom and Dad aren't able to come after all - they have to go to a funeral on Saturday. We'll miss them but know what they're doing is important. DJ made it home safe - and we got to bed a bit after midnight. I'm so glad he's back - but in some ways I slept better while he was gone :} Oh well! We've got some friends comming over today to play so the girls are really excited!

I got an electronic Soduku at the store a couple of days ago. This is big because I really enjoyed Suduko (I think I'll spell it different every time) before I stopped taking some medicine last year. Following that decision, I could not focus enough to do even a simple puzzle. I have really enjoyed playing with it and am happy to report that I have been able to do several puzzles. Small progress....

I also wanted to put some links of interest to me on here from time to time so that I could share with you: The one today is for Grandma Jo and Grandpa Gene especially - but I enjoy it so maybe some others might as well:
http://bestwebs.com/roaring1920/index.shtml
This is an online concert that someone made - and it has some really cute old music clips on it. It's on my favorites list. One of the best songs is Keep your skirt down, Maryanne!

Question for today: Write a want ad that describes your husband/wife.

That's a bit tricky...I'll give it a shot:

Wanted: A man who is ready for comittment to wife and family. This will entail some alteration in your personal time - as the client is really demanding of time. You will be required to provide for monetarily and support emotionally 5 females. Compensation will involve lots of love, attention, and hand-drawn cards (by the little females). All will look to you for advice and leadership but most especially a sense of reality beyond the four walls of your combined home. Only attractive, musical men need apply. In time, you might even forget what life was like before. If interested, come home at 6 - dinner will be waiting :)

These crazy questions! They really challenge my mind.

Mar 8 2007

I've heard that engagement story Grandma, and you're right - it changed even as he told it - but don't worry - I've got it on DVD! Also, Thanks so much for taking care of my guy last night. I haven't even met that co-worker yet - he's new! DJ was impressed with your driving prowess at night. I know that must be tough for you - so thank you so much - it really meant a lot to him!

A big shout-out Thanks to Jared for being on duty with DJ gone! Here's the story: I am such an independant person that no matter how many times Jared and Cory say call if you need anything, I just don't/won't call! Last night Kimball called because I couldn't. I cancelled on the Activity Days but arranged a ride for Kimball. It was good that I didn't go because I had a migrane come on really quickly - normally I will have a couple hours of regular headache to take some meds to head it off - last night I had about a half hour - right during the Activity Days time. I had got the little ones to bed - so that was good. I just laid in bed until I heard Kimball knock on the door - when she arrived home. Then I stumbled into a hot bath - but it wasn't helping much. I asked her to call Jared to come and give me a blessing - I had already taken my PM meds - so there wasn't any more I could do! It wasn't but a few minutes (enough time to get out of the bath, dressed in Jammies- with Kimball's help and into bed) before Jared and his friend Adam showed up to give me a blessing. I was so re-assured with them there - and Jared instructed Kimball to call if she needed anything in the night even! She slept in my room (she was worried about me - and a little scared I think). Aside from her talking in the night a bit - I slept great and the pain went away until this morning when it started gearing up as I woke up - so first thing I ran downstairs and got my Excederin. That stuff is a life-saver! Thanks to Jared and Adam - I got the sleep I needed to be able to handle today. Thanks to the caffine in the Excederine - I got a ton of work done this morning - and once DJ gets home he will be the voice of reason again for me. That's why I love him!

Well, that's quite the story. Mckay said something funny this afternoon - we were working cleaning up the yard just a little bit (3 bags worth) and she said that I was fun - except sometimes. I said "When am I not fun?" and she said when I'm angry. Fair enough - I told her she wasn't fun when she was angry either - and reminded her of that a few hours later when she got angry :) I think my girls have seen a different side of me with Dad being away - I think it's been good. I'll be so glad when he's home, though. I loved your comment, Becky about appreciating Tony - even though our guys aren't big and burly they sure add comfort and make us feel more secure!

On to the question: Did you wish you had more sisters or brothers? Why?

When I was about 12 I wanted my mom to have another baby - She informed me that wouldn't be happenening. The idea of a little baby appealed to me I think - even though my siblings kept me busy enough. I don't wish I had more sisters or brothers - I am satisfied with what I have and have enjoyed the "extra" brothers I've had for the last couple of years (almost). I am too busy with my own kids to worry about extra brothers or sisters - although it would have been nice to have a sister going through the same things I'm going through - but now I have sisters-in-law and friends I can relate to in these ways.

Have a good one!

Mar 7 2007

The song in my head this morning was - I don't know why I go to extremes....or something like that. I was a crazy woman and cleaned up a lot of the backyard - and now I'm toast. I'll get the girls fed and to bed and life will be good in a few hours. I bring this on myself I know - DJ says he's not sure if it's a curse or not. I get the work done - that's what I'm focused on right now. FHE this week was on gifts. I think this is one of my gifts - I can do what I have to do - I just pay for it later. Well, nothing is going tomorrow, so I'll be able to rest. We picked up a joystick in the game section at the local stuff-mart (from a recent Veggie Tales). It is a princess one with 5 games on it. The girls have been fascinated with it - and it's kept them busy! This is a family with no video games - before this! These are pretty simplistic - and princessy but it's been a lifesaver!

Question: How did you become engaged?

Well, we had talked about things in generalities - as I was planning on transferring to another school - I had even begun working on getting my Utah residency! DJ left on an Orchestra trip for a couple of days and left me his car (sidenote here) -which I gassed up, cleaned out, and put treats in. I thought it would be a good time to try and clear my mind and think about things. I asked my parents to fast with me in consideration of this relationship. My dad came and picked me up to go home for a day or two - and on the way home told me about how to recognize and answer. I could tell with how emotional he was in talking about it that he already had his answer. I prayed that evening and my answer was - If he asks, say yes. Pretty simple. Well, he got back, and I went back to school too, he went to the temple - and called my dad from the temple. Dad answered the phone in the bathroom (he spends a lot of time there - pondering the mysteries of the universe). DJ asked for permission to marry me. Then he didn't get around to asking me - until spring break. We were visiting his family and he took me out to the church (grassy area) to look at the stars after a day of adventuring. I wish I could remember all the neat things he said - I remember him talking a lot - but especially saying he didn't think he could make it through this life without me. :) At that point he asked me to marry him. I said yes and the rest is history. OH, when we got back to his parents and excitedly announced the news - they said - Big surprise. They knew what was going on. Fun memories.

I was thinking of Mimi today. She's part of our family history that is more real to us that any other - because we knew her. All those names of people in our past are real too! I remember 6 years ago - I was expecting Mckay - it seems like Kimball and I were at her birthday party that year (or just after the party). I really debated naming Mckay after Mimi, as Mimi passed away just a few months before Mckay was born. I can't picture her as anything but Mckay now. How blessed we were to know Mimi! That motivates me to find stories of others - and get to know them too.

Have a nice day!

Mar 6 2007

Thanks for the stories, Becky! The triple bunks will be neat - whenever they're done. This is the first chance I've had to be on all day - 8:31 pm. It's been crazy - but it's comming along well! DJ is off in Salt Lake City - cabinet training thru Thursday night. One of my best frineds, Sarah, is having twins! They just found out today - and are still in a bit of shock - but she and I had discussed the possibility before and she secretly hoped for twins. We're pretty excited for her! She's still pretty early on - so it's going to be a fun ride! We're lucky that the other in our trio - is Andrea who already has twins!

Tonight I took the girls shopping - for some fun while Dad is gone. We picked up a 500 piece puzzle that is really pretty - similar to an Anne Geddes picture with glitter on it....It's an interesting thing to be working on - pretty ironic, I guess. As bits of memory come to mind, I'm trying to fit them together - to re-create the complete picture. Turning, moving the pieces....anyway, it's really got me thinking about my fractured memory. Who knows what fractured fairy tales may come of it!

Question: Did you have roomates or companions? Tell about them and the things you learned living with others. (besides your immediate family)

I had 9 roomates over my college career. They were all unique people. I learned that I enjoy order, and routines. I had a roomate that was very difficult that resulted in me trading rooms with another roomate. That really helped things. I learned I don't want to have roomates again! I think in some ways, having children is like having some bad roomates - think about it: they wake you up at strange times, are demanding of you and never clean up after themselves. However, they are really snuggly and lovey which somehow makes up for things.

Mar 5 2007

We had a great conversation last night - DJ and I. Talked about a lot of plans - we're even re-thinking what we had planned for the bedrooms - maybe taking the girls room for ourselves (and putting in the master bathroom!). We're having fun figuring out how to fit them all in with beds - right now we're thinking of a triple bunk with a trundle bed. Here's a link to see what it looks like:
http://www.bunkbedsunlimited.com/Triple-Bunk-Bed-Plans.htm
We'll see what we end up with - DJ thinks he can manage without a plan - I think at a cost of just 10 dollars - you can't lose! The truck saga continues - he's found a similar truck to his that runs and is just 700.00 I don't even know what to tell him anymore! I would just like the time spent on the truck to come to an end - actually have a running vehicle that pleases him.

Well, I have some big cleaning planned for today - nothing crazy - but I do need to patch Kimball's pants. She just really wears her knees out! So - I saw a cute Idea I'm going to try - patching using pockets (back pockets) - at the invention deal there was a guy there with pants entirely made of pockets that gave me the idea. We'll see how that goes - I have to cut out the pocket big enough to have room to stitch around the pocket without closing it. Hope it works!

Question: Tell about any conditions surrounding your birth that you are aware of. Tell any interesting stories about your beginnings. (how your name was chosen, any close calls, etc.)

I am unaware of any unusual or interesting circumstances surrounding my birth - so those of you who know me, fill me in if you have anything to add. I know my mom chose my name because she liked it.

Make it the best Monday ever!

Mar 4 2007

It was my turn to go to church today - the little ones still have runny noses. I enjoyed the calm sacrament meeting. I guess I have only 3 years until it's like that all the time (biscut will be 5 by then). We'll see! We chuckled over Grandpa's comment about Spanish sounding like Mexican. My girls would probably say "spicy!"
DJ likes making comments in the various meetings we attend - and I think it's rubbed off a bit on me. I used to get really frustrated with individuals who I felt made so many comments that others weren't given any opportunity to comment. I think that everyone should have the opportunity - because you learn a lot more when you're part of the process. However, I'm discovering that there are some who will never comment - whether they are invited to or not. Just interesting.....

Question: What church callings have you had? Which did you enjoy the most?

I've served as counselor and president in both the Relief Society and Primary, Primary Chorister and Pianist, Ward Organist, Activities Committee, Ward Chior Director, Cub Scout Leader, Homemaking Leader and currently as Girls Activity Days Leader. The best by far is Primary Chorister. You can do it standing or sitting (I was expecting Mckay at the time and had to sit a lot towards the end), you have just enough autonomy, but not total responsibility. The kids love you! That was my favorite.

Have a nice day!

Saturday, March 03, 2007

Just a little bit more....

Wanted to add this somewhere - but not sure where. We came across this show Affluenza - and it was really interesting to see! I've been reading some interesting blogs - consumer disobedience, etc. It has made me look at my spending/accumulating habits. Just wanted to pass the idea along.....

http://www.pbs.org/kcts/affluenza/

Mar 3 2007

DJ made some progress on his truck - he found that the transmission he bought doesn't go with his truck. So....we wait until he finds another one. I was planning on him being gone all evening - and now he will be home so I'm not sure what we'll do! Anyway - we'll make it fun. The pull down is fixed! He replaced the broken ladder with a not broken one so we can go upstairs again!

Question: Tell about anniversaries. (celebrations, gifts, trips, etc.)

We've had many anniversary excursions - I don't remember many out and out gifts. Just having his time is a gift to me. I even endure camping trips, rugged roads, and primitive conditions just to get him beyond the range of his cell phone. That has worked pretty well for me - and we've been some neat places! This year we are planning something rather big - a big drive, and big adventure! Of course, we have the secondary not so big plan as well. I'm excited to go - but I am making myself wait to tell you what we are doing - the pictures are going to be spectacular!

I've got to get going on the spanish lessons so we can get our latin adventure trip planned - probably for next year (or beyond - depending on how long it takes me to learn). A funny side note - I found a Star Trek movie that is commming up - and decided to TIVO it - especially since it's in SPANISH! That should be interesting....and I made it through about a half hour of some game show on one of the Spanish channels. I need to start writing down words I learn so I don't forget them. Kimball is helping a spanish speaking girl at school - to learn English and in exchange is learning Spanish. So...last night DJ and I picked up a Spanish/English dictionary. She is really excited! What a great kid!

Well, that's all for now - I have to figure out what to make for dinner. After our eating out last night - I think I like home-cooked the best - really!

Mar 2 2007

I really appreciated your thoughts, Becky. I think there's a lot to think about there....
Today I pushed my biscuts (we use the word biscut(s) a lot here). It means I pushed my luck. We had a major errand day - followed by unloading of all the groceries, and after a 2 hour rest, I'm recovered enough to write for today. It's a really important part of my day to write here daily - for me!

Question: What did you do as a child that go you into the most trouble with your parents? How did they handle it?

Well, my answer to this question and my parents probably differ greatly. I think their memory has been blotted out through time and the repentance process, mine has been almost wiped out by medication. (Yes, I like to say - I took medicine to forget - although that wasn't why I took it, it was a side-effect). It's much easier for me to remember things my brothers did wrong, I'm thinking......oh, yes - here's one I remember. I took some of my money to school (not sure what age) to buy candy from the school store. My parents did not think that was a good use of money - and I remember them being upset - but again, my memory fails me with further details.
The things I'm trying to do as a parent really enlighten me as to the efforts my parents made. Today I had some real sucess - multiple outings equals multiple buckling and unbuckling of car seats. Taylor was really not wating to get in. Some may say I talked her into it, but I think I helped her to make a good choice (without raising my voice or getting upset!) My definition of success is different now than it used to be - and that's a real good thing!

Give your family a big hug today - you both need it!

Mar 1 2007

The year is marching right on! I'm learning a lot about myself - because since Mom and Dad decided to come for a visit (with Kimball's competition comming up) I'm thinking of all the projects I need to finish. Well, after an especially frustrating paint experience, I had to re-evaluate things. I really don't need to finish all my projects - and in reality (like I actually live in reality!) there's no way I can finish them all. So - my new goal is to make things look as good as they can for the state they're in. I hope this mindset can last. DJ is rebuilding/replacing his transmission in his truck this weekend (I hope ONLY this weekend). He also has some out-of-town training comming up next week so he will be gone a couple of nights. This has thrown off all the plans I could have made for him to accomplish - oh well! What a blessing to have experiences like this that really help us define what is important and what isn't!

Right to the question for today: How do you feel about winning? Losing?

I think you can learn a lot about yourself by experiencing both winning and losing. I like to win, and don't like losing too well - so I generally avoid the game altogether. The definition of winning (or losing) seems to be a key part of the experience as well.
