It's mid-Monday and I'm feeling very productive. I just love the feeling I get when I feel like I've finished something or done a good job on something - and that's how I'm feeling now. I'm re-arranging my computer area (and cleaning it). I've got to get brave and put something in these drawers. I'll put a pic when it's done.
Question for today: You've been given the ability to be invisible for 24 hours. What would you do during that time?
First thing that comes to mind is all those conversations that I imagine I would like to hear - but second thought is I don't really want to hear/know. I would probably follow my kids around and try to see the world as they see it - hear the things they say when I'm not around, find out whose fault it really is (with kids you know - it's always somebody's fault). That doesn't sound very exciting, probably. I would have to think about it for a while to really maximize the opportunity.

I'm up and at it - just a bit groggy from yesterday. The car trip could have been worse (and better) but it is in the past and that's good. We had a nice time at the baptism and were so glad to see everyone who was there. Today DJ's finishing the tile (I think).
On to the question: What is the most important thing you've accomplished in your life?
So many possible answers....birth which makes everything possible, finding DJ which has made my current life possible, earning my college degree, etc. Right now - surviving each day and finding the courage to face tomorrow (every day). May not seem like a big thing - but we all have our unique challenges and trials. What about you? How would you answer this?

Friday - Finally! We're gearing up for a long (8 hours in the car today) drive with just a couple hour stop in the middle. It will be nice to be there - but a long drive! I'm hoping to help drive a bit at the start - so DJ can get some rest - then he'll drive the rest of it. That's the plan anyway!
The tile made great progress yesterday - all that's left is to cut the last pieces and put them up - then grout it. It looks a lot nicer than I imagined it would. I really had no idea how it would look. I'm so glad that DJ has vision for things like this - it's really a gift!
Onto the question/statement for today: Where is the wisdom we have lost in knowledge?/Where is the knowledge we have lost in information? T.S. Eliot, The Rock
I think this goes along with some of my thoughts lately. I watched a couple of Oprah episodes that talked about rap and the language that rappers use (amongst other things). They had some music moguls on defending the rappers use of offensive language under the heading of free speech. These same individuals were decrying homophobia. So - if I understand correctly - it's OK to say what you want about who you want unless "they" disagree with you. Then they label you for what you have said. Why don't we have a label for those who like offensive language? I don't understand apparently. "They" also said that they should be allowed to say what they think or feel - because they don't know better. In teaching them otherwise we're not encouraging their "voice". Just because you have something to say doesn't mean that others need to hear it or that it has any value.
Relatedly - in the book - Helping and Healing our Families the following is said:
People clamor for rights and recognition in society while few speak of our moral responsibilities to society. We permit and even promote lewdness and perversion in the name of openness and acceptance......(Michael Medved has written) Hollywood no longer reflects or even respects the values of most American families. On many of the important issues in contemporary life, popular entertainment seems to go out of its way to challenge conventional notions of decency.
No matter the regularity of society's chants or the decibels of special interest groups' demands, some things are forever proper and right, and some things are eternally wrong.
I'm so enjoying this book! We think we're so educated today - much more so than generations past. So ironic!
I just have to add this little tidbit that lodged in my mind (again from the book - did I mention I'm only on page 15?):
It has occured to me many times that one of the most important gifts to be sought for and acquired in this complex age is the gift of discernment - not only the capacity to distinguish good from evil, as important as that is, but also the ability to discern what matters from what doesn't matter quite so much. I shudder at the possibility that I might finish my life and then have the Lord explain to me that I had spent my time laboring largely in secondary causes....The devil doesn't need to persuade us to steal or lie or commit adultery. You and I need merely undersell, understate, and thus underestimate the powers appropriateness, and relevance of the gospel, the importance of marriage and family. The devil wins when we stand idly by, choosing to not get involved in making a worthwhile difference for marriage and family life - our own and others'.
May we just be willing to open our mouths and allow them to be filled by the Lord when asked about the church, our lives, our values.

Busy Thursday - DJ's off and working on the backsplash - see?
I'm so glad he's working so hard. It's going to look nice - all finished! I'm working on some projects of my own. So straight to the question for today:
Would you like your spouse to be both smarter and more attractive than you?
Sure! Why not? I'd be getting the better end of the deal (although I'm already convinced I am :)) Someone's got to be the brains of this operation!

Tuesday was a crazy scanning day - I'm almost done. After several albums, and many more loose pictures the project is taking shape. It's making me think about how I organize my pictures....I'll have to take a break for a few days from these pictures so I can think clearly.
Today we're off for some fun - meeting Kimball at a field trip location. Sort of an unofficial entry I guess. It will be fun for us. I'll have some pictures tomorrow.
Question for today: Have you ever returned an item to a store for a refund after having used it?
Yes - let me explain. Most often if I have to return an item - it's because it's defective (which you wouldn't know without trying it) and I generally just want a replacement. Occasionally I have found products so bad - that I just want a refund. Some light fixtures from Costco come to mind (as I put in a light bulb - the housing that holds the bulb broke out - making it totally unusable. In this case I didn't want another poorly made fixture - just a refund. I must express surprise that the usually wonderful products from Costco had this exception! I can't think of any clothing issues like this - I make sure it's what I want before I buy. Our pull-down ladder had broken a while back - so we took it back for a replacement. They were happy to help. That seemed a more tricky question than it ended up being.

Hello again! I have several little tidbits to share today. On a cleaning show yesterday I heard this statistic - The US Postal service says that in 1 week we currently get the same amount of mail that our parents got in one year, and our grandparents got in their lifetime! Incredible to think of!
I'm working on getting the scanning done and should finish today! I've done several albums worth - so I'm feeling quite productive. I realized just yesterday that this is their 40th anniversary year (in November) - so I have a focus for this work! I'm going to try to use a memory disk program I have to compile everything. Well, not everything on ONE disk - but several disks - if you know what I mean :)
Yesterday I finished my Strengthening Families book and am now onto the second volume - Helping and Healing our Families. There have been several things already that I've found that I wanted to share here -
They're not all on the same subject - so bear with me:
Pages 4 & 5 are full of wonderful information - but especially page 5 -
Elder Maxwell counseled: "Preserve yourselves and your marriages and families in order to serve more individuals and for longer! Of course I would! Interesting enough I have been in several situations where someone who didn't like someone else made a point of telling them something like this. Helpful? Well, sort of. The tone and volume make a difference as well. You can't make yourself look any better by making someone else look worse.

Monday morning - and it's going, going. Getting laundry going - dishes, etc. Another day of scanning ahead, too. It would be great if I could get done....We'll see.
Saturday was fun - until we got home from the circus then I crashed. Last time I went to the circus, it was a resonable price (probably about $5.00). I had no idea how expensive it would be until we got to the ticket office. $21.00 per adult! The kids were free but had to have a "free" ticket - which the lady at the gate provided to us :) Thank Goodness! After seeing the prices, I radioed DJ and said - why don't you go home and get to work instead of meeting us here...Which he did. He got some good stuff done and we had 2 1/2 hours of fun - barkers, 2 fire alarms, way too many scantily dressed circus performers. We won't be going again anytime soon! The girls did have fun, though. We didn't elect to do the elephant or pony rides - so during intermission we just sat and talked. As I had been to the temple the night before - the contrast was fodder for a teaching moment. What - no flashy lights at the temple? Anyway, you know what I mean. I made sure they knew it was OK to go to the circus - you just needed to have different expectations of your experience.
I still wanted to post some pics so you could see some of the fun - it was too hard to get pictures of all my girls - as I was holding them on my lap...But elephants are always a hit and the big "ball" with 4 motorcycles was interesting too.
Question for today: If you could pick any age and stay there for the rest of your life, what age would you pick?
I don't know....I liked the fitness of my form at 17. I like the experiences I've gained since then - and I'm sure there's more to come. I guess I'm glad that in this life we get to experience it all - as long as we are alive. The changes, the learning, the growing (not just waistline either). There's something I didn't know I was grateful for today!
Well, I better get to my scanning - I've books and books to do. Love to all!

Happy Saturday! We're gearing up to work hard while DJ's in at the office for a few hours. Should be fun....But the exciting part is that we're going to the circus this afternoon. I'm excited because 3 out of 4 of our girls have never been - and I know they'll enjoy it. Pictures to come....
Question for today: What things would you like to know better about your partner?
Interesting....Well, I think after you've been married for a while, you figure you know each other pretty well. And, You do. However, people change and we can easily turn into strangers if we're not careful. I think that we can subvert our own tastes and desires in an effort for harmony. That's not a bad effort but it is bad when we don't know how our partner truly feels about things. If you push those feelings aside and say you feel differently - eventually you will either forget how you felt before or you will become resentful of having to say you feel differently than you do. It seems like you get to a stage of "renegotation" - maybe several along the road of marriage.
That said - I would like to have those same conversations we had when we were first getting to know each other - and see how our answers have stayed the same or changed. Too bad I don't have the transcript of those great conversations. I guess I'm lucky in some ways that I have such a spotty memory - it allows me to have those conversations - like it's the first time. Wow - I hadn't thought of it that way - as such a blessing!

Date night was nice - and all the girls were asleep when we got home - Yes! To me that's the most important thing about having a babysitter - getting the kids to bed on time.
This morning I'm moving slow - but we're meeting up with friends so it will be fun, too.

I think this is an interesting question that bears exploring. The question of what makes one beautiful....they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder....and seeing the variety of people on this earth - it must be true. Of course, our perceptions are colored by our experience, expectations, and even mood. It's interesting to me how much our mood can affect - it colors our reality - not really changing it but filtering it. Even someone you might thing is very unattractive can look differently when you know more about them.

I have to start today by telling you about a wonderful old movie we saw recently. Our Man in Havana - with Alex Guiness, Burl Ives, and Maureen O'Hara. It seemed serious at the first, but we couldn't help but laugh with some of the writing - they don't write them like this anymore! Here's some of our favorite lines:

Beds always make one talk.
At my age one has to learn from other peoples' experiences.
One never tortures except upon mutual agreement.
Isn't indiscreet a lovely perfume?
It's a spy show - as you might deduce from the lines....We found it to be a lot of fun and just wanted to recommend it if you haven't seen it.
Today isn't as busy as some days - but we do have some things going that will take us out of the house.

I had a lot of fun thinking about this - possible titles include: Running with Scizzors, Couldn't spell to save her life, A life laminated. I guess I admire those who have written autobiographies and come up with titles. It's tougher than you think.

Good Morning! I am glad to be up this morning. I so enjoyed the comments from yesterday - and am encouraged to keep the questions going. I had made this conversation starter for date night (hey - after 12 years sometimes its hard to think of something to say that doesn't deal with the kids!). We haven't used it much for that so I'll start drawing out questions from here. Found these online - and I know there's a lot more than 100! Well, as I said, today is a big day for the blog - a bit of an update to the colors and my 100th post for this year! Also - check out the journal jar - EMPTY! Today is the last question from it. It's a great feeling to be done with something like that and know I've done something to record things about myself for my girls, especially. I'm glad to have been able to share these with you as well - hopefully you know me better too! Sorry about the picture being sideways - but it's a busy day here and I don't have time to fix it!
We got Mckay registered for Kindergarten! I had everything filled out - and all my paperwork in order so it just took about 5 minutes. Mckay is also going to the dentist today - and she's really excited about that too! I started a project yesterday to get some old pictures printed out to frame and put by the kitchen table - that led to borrowing my in-laws albums (have to have both sides of the family after all!) - and now I'm going to scan in all of Kaye's pictures and give her a disk with them so she can do computery things as she wants. I will probably make up some sort of an album for her as well. I'd like to do something so they can just put it in the DVD player and watch - with probably a "hard" copy as well. Interesting how one project leads to another. These pictures are something the girls will want to see in years to come - so it's important to do this!
Well, now I've got to figure out something to put on the blog every time I post. Maybe I'll do more questions - maybe something else.....Any suggestions?
Question (LAST) for the day: Thinking back was there a teacher(s) or class that had a great influence on you?
Definately! In high school I had a Mrs. Asmus who was insturmental in me choosing my initial major in college - Biology Education. She was an excellent teacher who had been offered a job as a Disney Imagineer before deciding on going into teaching. Artistic, Smart - really made learning fun. In grade school I had some really bad teachers - one in particular was really mean. So, when I got a nice teacher who made learning fun and seemed to genuinely like us it was wonderful. Every Christmas she would tell us she would pack us in her suitcase to take us with her to Hawaii for Christmas - and we learned the Melikalikimaka (sp?) song as she loved that.... Mrs. Yamada. Thank goodness for good teachers! There were other teachers I really liked - but these stand out in my mind.

I guess I took the weekend off from the computer. It is nice to have a break. Not sure if this is a new habit or not - but we worked so hard in the yard we even missed the adult session of Stake Conference. We've reached a new point in our lives - the one where going to Stake Conference (regular family session) is just an act of obedience. It's been like this for a year or two now....I am looking forward to it being better someday. We walked to church because it's close - then I ended up leaving early because Taylor was just freaking out! So, I got an extra workout carrying her home. Regular Church is special enough - but Stake Conference - being longer and without nursery following it - just is tough!
Well, lots to do today, so I can't spend all day here - on to the question: Do you have a favorite general authority(s)? Who and why?
I have 2 favorites. My earliest favorite was Elder Oaks. I just really like how he says things....My other favorite is Elder Bednar - probably because DJ and I have heard him speak several times before he was a GA - and we were always impressed with his insight and were inspired to discuss and study the various topics more. I guess that means he taught with the spirit. That said - I do enjoy all of them, their various styles of speaking and so on - but I think most of us have our favorites...

I'm so glad it's Friday! DJ and I have a nice date planned tonight and the kids are thrilled to have a babysitter over! I'm going over all the possibilities for today - and I think the computer might win today. I'm making some quickpage albums out of the many kits I have. It's quick and easy and makes putting a page together so much fun! I hope to declutter my desk too - if possible. Right now - all my drawers in my desk are empty because the little ones so enjoy getting into them. I would really like to use these drawers - maybe someday....
A little funny for today - I had just begun my morning bathroom tour when the phone rang. Mckay answered it - and it was DJ. He was concerned because the little ones were beeping him with my cell phone. I figured that would solve the problem, but shortly I heard beeps again - so I grabbed my robe and ran. After getting the offending phone, calling DJ and apoligizing I was able to continue the tour. Crazy little kids - amazing what they can find to get into in such a short time.
Question for today: How do you feel about Doctors? Why?
Again - a great question. In general I am a little wary about doctors - I have found that they tend to "talk down" to me - even when I've explained that I am fairly educated and have already researched a bit about possibilites related to why I am there. That is frustrating. Especially pediatricians. That said - we have an excellent pediatrician that we have used for several years now. We know each other well enough that the visits are concise but thorough. Personally, I have an excellent doctor who has delivered all my babies, helped me through several other things, and is almost a member of the family. That is such a blessing! That doesn't mean I don't get very nervous when I go in - probably almost to panic attack state. However, I always feel better after the visit. He reminds me of Doc Baker on Little House on the Prairie. I tell myself every time that there is no reason to get so worked up about it - but it happens just the same. I'm so glad for modern medicine and the blessing it is in my life!

Good Morning! We're off to an early start - going to see Grandma Flora this morning. We'll have cousins over this afternoon - so it's a fun, full day! We tried yesterday's recipie and I liked it - the girls weren't real fans - I might experiment with the filling a bit....But I thought it was tasty! DJ thought it was a little too "gourmet"

Question for today: Do you have a special school (College or High school) memory?
So many memories....too much to share here. Maybe just a few to share....I remember doing a lot of fun things together - as roomates in college. But one time we were just sitting around the apartment - waiting for something in the oven to cook...when sparks shot out of the oven. The heating element burned out - suddenly! I don't think we ate what was in the oven. We enjoyed staying up late talking - and in my upstairs apartment I had one "room" roomate - and two others that shared the other room. I remember how well I slept in those days - I could go to sleep in one position and wake up in the same position, having slept very deeply! Of course, I think we usually slept in as well. I didn't like to schedule classes before 9 am. Someday I'll be like the more mature women I know and be able to get up early. Well, that's enough stream of consiousness memories for today.

I've found a new little show that's fun - Simplify your Life. It's on the Fine Living Channel. I was catching some of the episodes on the TIVO. Saw this great recipie - and it uses Tortillas! I'm almost through the big pack - so I'll have to pick some more up - with all these great Tortilla recipies..... Here's the recipie:
Apple Cinnamon Breakfast BurritosSimplify Your Life : Episode FLSYL-313
Ingredients:
1 package whole wheat tortillas
8 oz. cream cheese, softened
2 1/2 Tbs. brown sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4-cup chopped walnuts
1/4-cup raisins
About one half thinly sliced apple per burrito
Instructions:
Blend together cream cheese, brown sugar, cinnamon, walnuts and raisins in a medium bowl.
Place a tortilla between two moist paper towels and microwave for 15-30 seconds.
Spread 1-2 tablespoons cream cheese mixture evenly over warm tortilla and top with thin layer of apples.
Roll tortilla up from the bottom.
Repeat with remaining tortillas. Keep covered in refrigerator up to one week.
Doesn't that just sound yummy? Anyway, I'm looking forward to trying it!
Today has been good - foggy mind but very productive. I finished taking apart the fence panels that DJ was sure we needed for firewood. It will take him just a fraction of the time I spent today - 2 hours - to get those chopped into small boards. We have a birthday tonight - little Biscut is getting bigger and older. She has really been changing lately - and it's fun to see. It's a bit strange to realize that we won't be having another little one to follow her - but it's a good thing too. It helps me focus on the girls - they keep me plenty busy! This is a whole conversation for another time.....

In case you can't tell what it is - It's a grassy hill with flowers. I can't do everything well! This is about as good as it gets for me. I really could do better but I don't enjoy the process or the stress- so this will do. The picture doesn't show that the bottom of the cake didn't come out of the pan - so it's considerably shorter than it would have been. It will still be tasty!
Question for today: What kids of foods do you consider to be "picnic food". Where do you like to go to eat it?
I just drew it out of the jar - really! I guess it's a food day! Sub sandwiches, Fried chicken, chips, little veggies and dip. That's just off the top of my head....I usually like to eat a picnic at the park or other grassy area - sometimes around water if it's convienient. With DJ's drives - the picnic part is the essential part for me to feel like it's been a good day. I think he's learned this and goes along very well. He is usually pleasantly surprised by what I choose to bring along and always thanks me for my contibution. OH - and being outside of any length of time requires pain medication - invariably I get a headache. For drives, I often take pain med profilactically (before I need it) because by them time I need it - it's too late!
This is probably a good time to mention - I was glad that it wasn't hot enough here to get a sunburn when I saw Sarah's entry about sunburns recently. Then, last Friday, I learned that it was hot enough to get a sunburn. I think I've recovered - but might have inflicted new damage as I was outside this afternoon....Have to remember to get some more sunscreen (gave the remnants from last year away to the local elders....smooth move!). Anyway - better wake the little ones before they sleep though dinner!

I finally got to the computer today! We've been driving with DJ and out and about - thanks again for babysitting, Cory! It's 7 pm and I'm finally at the computer. I'm hoping to get some cards done today - so I have to make this short.
Question: How do you feel about Dentists? Why?
These questions are so random! I have no particaular animosity toward dentists. They are a necessary part of our word and help out in the oral area. I inherited exeptionally good teeth - so I've only had a few cavities - and several years of braces (but that's the orthodontist region). There's nothing like the feel of clean teeth after a dental session. That is - as long as you've been brushing and flossing regularly - otherwise it can be rather painful to have (as DJ says because he doen't floss regularly) your gums trimmed :) He's so silly that way. I have finally gotten to the point I like to floss daily and feel as though I missed something if I don't floss. I don't like to look myself in the mirror though - so I watch something on TV whilst I floss. It works for me.
Well, now you know me better than you ever thought you would! Have a good day - and remember to floss!

I'm back....not that I really went anywhere. It was just a long weekend and part of the time the computer was without power - so now I'm back. Here's the laundry room - in progress.... I'll show you an after shot when it's finished.....

Yes, it's quite the tangle of wires - but it will be so nice to have a place to plug everything in. I'm doing this myself - so it's all I'm doing today. I got it in the box, but then discovered that the last plug in the lineup isn't working properly - so I will replace that and be done!
Thanks for the tortilla ideas. I just have a tough time coming up with a variety of meals with the tortillas - the big package is so intimidating! I look forward to reading the story you talked about, Aaron. That sounds very interesting!
We had our usual Easter celebrations. DJ ended up working for a few hours with his brother - that's why the laundry room is still in process....I've had my share of things to do, too. We're just getting things ready to put in the new cabinets - no new appliances yet....but someday!
Question for today: Tell about any interesting or important visitors to your home.
Well, I don't know if I've had what most would consider interesting or important visitors to my home. However, I think most of my visitors are both interesting and important. That makes me think of a quote that I really like - "It's nice to be important but it's more important to be nice." Don't know who said it.....but it's true! This could lead to a discussion like the one in My Fair Lady where Eliza talks about the difference between Colonal Pickering and Professor Higgins- with the professor asserting that it's not how one treats people, but that one treats everyone the same. Eliza counters with the example of Pickering treating a flower girl as if she were a duchess instead of Higgins treating a duchess as if she were a flower girl. Isn't there enough in this world telling us that we're unimportant? I want to treat people in a way that they will feel interesting and/or important. I think that's the right thing to do - lift up.
Well, I've got 3 little girls who need some lifting up now, so I better get going. Make someone's day brighter!

Good morning! I'm getting my blog done early today. The morning is going pretty well. I am getting things done and just about ready to head to the park. We ended up with DJ, Jared and I having Enchiladas. The girls snacked on chips for their dinner - with pepperoni and cheese. Tonight is Fajitas. I have a big package of tortillas that I'm trying to use up.....so let me know if you have any great ideas to use tortillas :)
Kimball is reading the Covey book for Teens. She is really enjoying it - started last night and will probably be done before bed tonight - even though I told her she had to leave it home today. I wasn't sure that she would like it - but she surprises me again and again! Also - I found her school's AR list - so I can tell her what books the school has in her reading range that she can get credit for reading. That's going to help a lot. I tried emailing the pricipal but the email address didn't work :( So - we'll think about that more later.
Mckay's registration is comming up in just over a week. They had the registration packets at the school - so I just picked one up and already have it filled out. That will save time....now to round up the required "documents". She is so excited - it will be a lot of fun for her - and maybe she'll be nicer to her sisters.....learn to be less bossy (dare I hope?).
OH! I forgot to mention - Kimball babysat for us for the first "real" time last night - All her sisters were asleep and she just read her book - but she was home for about an hour without us here! Didn't even phase her....what a trooper. Not that we're ready to do this more often - but its the beginning of a wonderful season of our lives!
Question for today: What were your fears, expectations, anticipations, about getting married?

Pocket purses for the girls - really little pockets from old jeans - ribbon handles. Also - as everyone vies for the prayer we made a prayer spinner by adding our names to this spinner from a game we have. I don't love the colors on it - so I might make a new cover for it. It's been fun - the last one to give a prayer spins for the next prayer - so it's totally random in whose turn it is. I agree with Becky - it seems like things work for a while - then stop working so well, so you have to come up with new ideas. These are just the latest ideas....

Here I am again! It's been a long day - just when I think things are going better, I overdo things and have to slow down. My mind is foggy and I feel like I'm in slow motion. Anyway - it will pass.....everything does!
I so enjoyed everyone's comments - don't feel like you have to comment! It's just nice to read them when they're there. I so enjoy checking out everyone's blogs as well and know how crazy it is sometimes to even get things read, let alone comment! As far as getting things done - it's that season of our lives is all. You'll get there too - eventually! We're almost to our 12th wedding anniversary. It's easy for me to get overwhelmed with all that's ahead of us - or behind us. We are just trying to enjoy this season as best we can. I made a list yesterday of what I want done before the May graduation (not that it will get done, but it is on a list). I don't know what it is about making the list but it really helps me feel like I have a handle on things (funny - considering the heading of the blog....maybe that's all I've got - the handle - but it is reassuring anyway!).
Well, It's 4:03 and I don't know what's for dinner. Mckay is looking through a cookbook with lots of pictures trying to figure it out. I think I was thinking of enchiladas earlier - but the girls don't want that....maybe I'll just make nachos for them. Someday I hope to be more organized - I've gotten away from our 6 week meal plan. I guess you really can't do everything.
DJ and I watched The Illusionist finally! It was really good - I knew what was happening and DJ thanked me for keeping him up to speed. So - should I watch The Prestige? I know nothing about it other than it's talked about with reference to the Illusionist. I want your opionion!
Well - and I didn't think I had anything to talk about today.....hee hee!
Question: Would you choose differently if you could choose your occupation again? Why? How? Any advice?
One of these days, I'm going to just let the errors stand in my typing - that question took me probably a whole minute to type/retype.....the fog again!
That is an interesting question, though. I guess my occupation is stay-at-home mom at this point. It might sound surprising, but I never thought I would be a stay-at-home mom when I was college-age and preparing to get married! I fully intended on having a career (ask me why someday - not in the blog...) and took classes and got my degree accordingly. I knew having a mom at home was important to DJ - so it became important to me, too.
My mom had been home with us when we were little - but there were so many little ones that it was overwhelming to her. She even watched other's children. There came a time that she needed to go to work - and it was before my youngest brother went to school. I remember him going to some type of childcare - albeit briefly. He must have been close to school age. It took her a while to find the right niche for her, but once she found it - it's kept her busy all these many years. Springtime is always tough - and she always talks about quitting this time of year. I know it's helped her sense of self to work.
Everything considered now, I'm not sure I will be able to work extensively once my girls are in school. I always planned on going "back" to work - somewhere after they went to school. With my health, I have days I'm glad I can stay home. So - I might just volunteer or do something that allows me flexibility. DJ's company would be happy to have me join them - and I started the process years ago when we just had Kimball. So, I've got options. That's a great place to be.
I remember how surprised some of DJ's scouts were several years ago when we were talking about this during a backyard campout - only one boy had a mom who stayed home. They were really surprised I stayed home. I've been at home now for 8 years - and counting! That sounds like a really long time to me - and it is. I've got just over 3 years left with little ones at home. It hasn't been easy - I think I enjoyed going to school and getting a break when Kimball was little. I think it's like most other things - you gain a testimony of it as you do it. We've been blessed that DJ has had employment sufficient to allow me to be home.
The most interesting talks I've had with my girls have been about "what if mommy couldn't be home with you - and you had to go somewhere else - maybe where they just watched boy shows on TV?" They can't even imagine me not being home with them. They've been well adjusted and have gone to others just fine. This is just how it is and they know it!
Just have to add on another topic - after my opinionated answer to the question of public education - life is teaching me to be flexible. I need to schedule an appointment to talk to Kimball's principle. Somehow, we have to take things up a notch - she spends so much of her day reading while everyone else is catching up. We'll keep you posted! Life has a way of doing that .....you take a strong stand and it teaches you that you don't know everything. I've even forgotten most of what I once knew! That's an accomplishment for today!

I tried putting May 4th in for today! Crazy.....
The easter eggs are working like a charm! Kimball made eggs (we hid her egg next to the eggs in the fridge) and Mckay emptied the dishwasher. Hinckley made toast and Taylor helped put away the silverware. We are having so much fun with this! I think after Easter, I'll make something else - related to the next holiday maybe. They really are doing well. The didn't want to have their miracle music this morning (as I set the alarm last night) until I suggested when we each had earned 100 points we could all go to the drive in movie! That got them so excited about it - I think some almost had a hard time going to sleep. It must be inspiration!
Today we cleaned up the front porch to make a "kitchen" for the girls to play in. They were sure excited - and it got the porch cleaned nicely! The little ones are down for nap - so I have to hurry - I have too much to do today!
Question: Describe your typical school day during your Jr. high years.
Well, this was back in the days when they had lockers - I've heard that they don't anymore - Don't know for sure.... I had several classes with locker stops in between to get what I needed for each class. My friends and I would congregate and talk in the bathroom during longer breaks. That was always fun. Not sure why that was so much fun - the janitorial staff must have kept it really clean....I don't think I would enjoy that now. I enjoyed eating lunch with my friends - and then a trip to the library. I loved to read so much I would read several books a week. Afternoon classes then the bus ride home. Nothing too exciting....

The didn't want to have their miracle music this morning (as I set the alarm last night) until I suggested when we each had earned 100 points we could all go to the drive in movie! That got them so excited about it - I think some almost had a hard time going to sleep. It must be inspiration!
Today we cleaned up the front porch to make a "kitchen" for the girls to play in. They were sure excited - and it got the porch cleaned nicely! The little ones are down for nap - so I have to hurry - I have too much to do today!
Question: Describe your typical school day during your Jr. high years.
Well, this was back in the days when they had lockers - I've heard that they don't anymore - Don't know for sure.... I had several classes with locker stops in between to get what I needed for each class. My friends and I would congregate and talk in the bathroom during longer breaks. That was always fun. Not sure why that was so much fun - the janitorial staff must have kept it really clean....I don't think I would enjoy that now. I enjoyed eating lunch with my friends - and then a trip to the library. I loved to read so much I would read several books a week. Afternoon classes then the bus ride home. Nothing too exciting....

This was my great idea for yesterday - We've had a hard time getting the girls to help out - so I made some "eggs" with their names on them (one each) and informed them that this morning the eggs would be hidden near a job for them to do. In order to get their eggs - they had to do their job. It went over really well, all in all! Kimball and Mckay were so excited to be able to get their eggs - and got right to work this morning. After Easter- they can use the eggs for decorations for their room. OH, and the eggs are color coded to match their "color" plate, cup etc. It makes it nice - even the little ones know which ones are theirs. Everything is laminated. I used a Hawaiian Punk font and just stretched a circle to make an egg shape. For the basket - I used a basket outline for the shape then filled it with a "basket pattern" I had in my graphics! I felt very clever. I got thinking later that I could have made more eggs for each person - but one is not overwhelming to anybody.
Today I was so tired - two of the girls were up in the night thinking there were spiders on them, in their room, etc. I didn't get up with them - but even just being woken up seems to disturb my sleep enough that I drag.....They were accomodating this morning and let me sleep while they watched cartoons in my bed - so that was nice.
I was so pleased with the amount of work DJ got done last night - patched the screen door, worked on a vent cover (almost done) and got some prep work done to put end panels on the last kitchen cabinets. At this rate, my never-ending list will end! He's itching to mow the lawn - so I think that's what he'll do tonight. He so enjoys working outside!
Question for today: Do you recall any outstanding family trips or summer holidays you experienced as a child?
What a great question! I do recall several family trips that were lots of fun. We went to the Oregon Coast one year - that was a lot of fun. I enjoyed and got acquainted with the ocean. I remember going to Disneyland. How can that not be memorable? I remember going to Yellowstone one summer. I remember visiting Canada - just barely inside the border :) I have a lot of plesant, happy memories of vacations. It was a time to not just see the extended family, but to make memories and get to know each other.
One little story - related to April Fools Day. When I was newly married, I was excited for April Fools day and made preparations for some fun. I took some square dog treats and covered them with chocolate, then I took them to work and then over to my in-laws (we must have gone for conference break). At work, they thought I was just a bad cook -so they didn't comment on the charcole flavor. I didn't enlighten them either....My poor Father-in-law had just come home from a long day at work - and those were sitting there - so he ate some. He was too tired to care when he found out what they were. Ah, the follies of youth! Even to this day my in-laws are a bit suspicious of any food I make....

I skipped yesterday - April Fools on me! The girls enjoyed playing tricks on us - I even found newspaper wadded in my shoes this morning. Mckay was very pleased that I'd found it.
We enjoyed the last 2 sessions of conference. DJ's truck is running but has a sound he needs to investigate before driving it. I'm so pleased he got as far along as he did!
Question for today: Where do you like to eat out? What do you order?
The last couple of times eating out hasn't been as pleasant - maybe I've had a tummy bug or something. So right now I'm a bit leery of eating out. My new idea for date night is to play restaurant where we try a new recipie at home - after the girls go to bed. I haven't done that yet - but I'm planning on it soon!
When I feel good - I enjoy mexican food and Italian. Noodles and chicken are always a hit with me. I also like chicken salads. I've been thinking about food since our lessons in Sunday School on the millenium. We'll be eating differently then....so I wonder if our tastes will be different or we'll just have to adjust. I try not to think about it too hard. Do you have any opinions on this?
Well, it is getting close to lunch time. I'm working on a labor problem - motivation in my sweet Kimball. Hopefully it will all work out. Have a nice day, everyone!
